Hello all well traveled DCL people....

DW surprised me with a Dream Concierge cruise RIGHT NOW!!!!!

We have no idea about tipping for our room service dinner tonight or any other services. Is there a guide you all have or I can reference?

Note....dinner is expected shortly, so a quick reply would be great.

Thanks

McFlurry John

If you can, I'd suggest searching the Disney Cruise Line forum for 'tipping' or 'gratuities.'

I'd expect you'll find several helpful threads that already exist, so you don't have to wait. It's not an uncommon topic.

(I'd help, but I don't remember the specifics offhand and wouldn't be able to find them quickly/easily.)

Oh, and BTW, your DW is awesome! Have a great time!

(ETA: Sorry if that suggestion was not actually helpful. It didn't click in my brain that it's concierge. So there may be less info readily available. Dunno. Never been in concierge so I don't know how different it is.)

No need to worry about tipping. DCL will auto bill you a set amount for the non concierge cast members.

So in concierge you don't tip room service at all?
(I'm asking this as a totally serious question because I have no idea how concierge works.)

As far as I know, all tips are automatically billed to your room. Concierge or not.

Maybe it's changed in the past couple years, but I remember tipping room service separately. (In a regular cabin.) Maybe it's a 'some people do, some people don't' kind of thing. I'm not sure.

I just always thought that the gratuities being charged to the room were specific to your dining team. And they wouldn't be delivering your room service.

If you are getting food delivered to your room then you should tip the cast members that bring the items to you. We typically do $5 - $10 depending on what we had delivered. Your room attendants will be auto tipped (you can adjust up or down). The concierge team themselves do not get auto tipped at the end of the cruise. You will need to tip them yourselves. On the last night of the cruise you will be presented with receipts for the individual positions. If you do nothing then they will be tipped the default amount (I don't know those off the top of my head). For the concierge team you will be given a piece of paper with a blank for you to fill out for how much you want to bill them or you can just hand them cash. Those tips will be split evening amongst the team.

Now how much to tip the concierge team is a debated topic and you can look up those amounts before the end of the cruise. Personally my wife and I generally do $30 per concierge member per day and then round up if we had exceptional service (which we always have gotten).

Concierge and room service gratuities are not automatically put on your bill.
For Room Service, I imagine what my meal would cost in a normal restaurant and I pay a tip based on that 15 - 20%. When the deliver extra fast, I increase it by a couple dollars.

I haven't sailed concierge, but would imagine tipping about $20/per day to my concierge for standard stuff and increasing if I was overly needy.

Not for room service. Room service is only tipped by the people receiving it.

OP not sure if you're referring to "regular" room service, or "room service" from the Main Dining Room. Or "room service" from Palo.

Basically, regular room service is usually around $1 an item up to $5 for a full meal (per person). I'm not sure who/how the tipping goes if you order your meal from the Main Dining Room menu.

No. The only gratuities automatically added to your onboard account only cover your stateroom host, your dining room server, your assistant server and your head server.

And any beverages purchased (alcoholic or non) will have a 15% gratuity added to the bill.

Room service and Concierge hosts are not included in the auto-gratuity. Those you tip as you see fit.

Oh! I did not know that. Ok that's good to know.

THANKS TO ALL. We tipped $10 for the meal and hoped that would have been sufficient.

That is correct. Some tips are "suggested," some are mandatory, and some are completely at your discretion, but they all will be automatically billed to your room to be payed at the end of the cruise.

First, your room will be billed for a suggested tip amount for the room steward, the server, the assistant server, and the head server. You are able to stop by guest services (or tell your concierge host) if you want to change any of the automatically billed amounts.

Also, there are other tips onboard. You are required (it's not optional) to tip the spa workers if you use them, for example. A small tip is added to all bar/coffee bar drinks, and you can increase that (but not decrease it) by noting on the receipt you sign. If you dine at Palo or Remy you can add a tip to the bill. You can specify a tip to room service when you get the delivery on the receipt you sign. But, you pay none of these on the spot, they are all automatically billed to your room.

Some people choose to tip sometimes in cash (for example, in addition to the suggested amount for your server give them some cash, or just give cash to room service). You don't have to, since you can choose to have them all billed to your room (just filled out any receipts and it will be automatically billed).

It is not inconvenient for the cast members (crew) to receive a cash tip, they simply turn it in to the purser's office in the crew quarters and it is credited to their paycheck. Simple for them, so if it is preferable for you go ahead, but really your entire cruise onboard can be cashless.
