Help: Need Stroller to Hold 75lb child for Disney Trip

OP, thanks for posting on this board. My 6yo DS weighs 60 pounds and he just hates walking all over Disney-I found this thread while searching for info about Strollers. He plays soccer, basketball, and baseball so it has absolutely nothing to do with not being in shape--he justs LOVES to ride in anything---car, stroller, wagon, buggy, bike, you name it.

On our last trip, DS1 was 5, DS2 10 we rented a double stroller for the entire stay and it was TOTALLY worth the expense. Unfortunately, Disney raised the prices a ridiculous amount since then.

I say do what makes for an enjoyable family vacation--you will NOT have the only older child in a stroller.

LMAO LMAO LMAO!! It took me a second to see the stroller! :lmao:

me too! I thought someone was being snarky about the little baby in a stroller until I saw the guy in the background squished into the stroller :lmao:

I rented a double for my kids when they were 4, 4, and 6, but the following spring, dd, then 7, walked 5 days straight in DC, without issue, and without the sitting on rides breaks at WDW. She weighed 45 pounds, and was about 46" tall (with little tiny legs). She walked to each and every monument, after touring 2 museums! Rent if you need it, but I'd go planning on not using a stroller.

I just did a trip with my 8 year old -- I agree, have them walk and take breaks as needed. We have a rule that anyone on the trip has the right to ask the whole group to sit down on whatever bench we happen to be passing or to slow the pace of the group's walking. Most of the time, the kids do not invoke their right to make the group sit or slow -- but I think it makes them feel more in control and less rushed. Good luck.

That's a great idea - my dd's are well out of stroller age now but I think this will work for our family anyway for various reasons.

OP - my youngest used a stroller at WDW well past usual stroller age but was fine walking by 7. I don't blame you for wanting your vacation to be easy and stress free but honestly I wouldn't spend the kind of $ you would have to spend to get a stroller appropriate for a larger child.

I would hit the park and see what happens, you will be fine in the MK and DHS and the only possible issues may be late nights at Epcot and maybe AK as its hot and lots of walking. By renting as needed you can compromise and still save $ over purchasing a stroller you will never use again.

Have a great trip.

I certainly wouldn't want to have to push 75 lbs all day, as I'd be the cranky one complaining that I was tired, etc. I'd just rent as needed - plan to rent if you're doing World Showcase, but I'm thinking DHS and MK are pretty doable for an active (pre-comp swimmer) 8 year old. AK can get hot, and things are pretty spread out, but the cobblestone paths are brutal to push anything besides a jogging stroller.

As for the huge backpack you don't want to lug around - simple solution - don't bring a ton of crap, and divvy up the stuff you do need between the entire family.

We have a simple family solution to whining and complaining. When anyone complains, we get ice cream!

Well I'll admit it - we used the stroller for an 8 year old - and we loved it! She is small for her age for at 8 she was the size of a 6 year old. We go in the summer (think July heat) so the stroller was a lifesaver for us.

Some of the jogging strollers have a 75 lbs. weight so I would check out the stroller swaps for rent on.

Believe me you'll see lots of "big kids" in strollers at Disney. Whatever works for your family.

Hi, my name is Jennifer and I guess I'm a mean mom (waves)...

But if my child was old enough, physically able to and still said they didn't feel like walking all day ... and instead wanted me to push them...I just may reply, well in that case maybe I don't feel like dropping 6 grand on Disney.

Since this thread is from 2009, I would hope at 15 the child is now walking the parks.
