Help!Need sister advice

Hi,
I have a big problem now that my vacation plans are all together....My closest sister is in a horrible divorce and custody situation...So now after i have every thing booked for my families vacation and planned...She has just gotten her dates to go to court, they are during the times i will be on our family vacation and she needs my support....I so badly want to be there for her but at the same time what about my family...Am i being selfish???What would you do??Need Advice...

i have actually been in a simular situation and my cousin called the courts for a postponement usually you are allowed one postponement so maybe her lawyer could ry this

Tough situation. Has she asked you to be there for the court dates? I have 2 sisters, and I know if they were all booked for Disney I would never want them to break their plans. But, every situation is different. If you feel your sister would hold this against you, I would try to change my plans. Sorry and good luck.

Yes she did ask me to be there for the court dates....I have always been there for her but i'm thinking maybe my youngest sister could take over for me atleast for the one court day....Or do you think this is selfish of me???I know no matter what i do i will feel guilty.....Either because of letting my family down or my sister...

I can understand your wanting to be there for your sister. But your family comes first. I'm sure you've been there for her through many things and I don't think being separated by miles this one time will negate that. You can still speak to her by phone from WDW to give her moral support. Even if your sister didn't request a postponement her husband or the courts themselves may. Then you'd have given up your family trip for nothing.

I wouldn't change your vacation around a court date - the court date itself is pretty likely to change, and then it would be for nothing. Since your sister will have others there to support her, it's not like you're leaving her high and dry. Just bring her a really nice gift.

, I agree. My sister and I are really close too, so I know its probobly going to be hard for you to leave. But i know my husband and dd would be really disapointed if I changed vacation plans like that..I have obligations to them too. Maybe give your sister a call, and make sure she is doing okay. I am sure your sister would not want you to miss your much awaited vacation either. Go, enjoy yourself..she will be okay.

Thanks for all your replies...Just talked to my youngest sister who is going to take over for me and be my other sisters total support the day of court...Like someone said what happens if they postpone the date, i didn't even think of that, thanks...That could possibly happen...I will still fell so guilty but my family is also important to me...I have always been there for her so i'm hoping that this one time that she will understand....Thanks

Just want everyone to know that the courts called my sister today and changed her court date, so i will be able to go with her...All that worrying for nothing....So i will be going on vacation guilt free....Then a couple weeks when i come back going to court with my sis....Thanks all...
