I made ressies for our family to arrive at AKL on May 21 mainly because I wanted to spend our 17th wedding anniversary at WDW. However, we will have to take our kids (ds 8 and dd 13) out of school for the LAST 4 days. They usually just do busy work and have class parties since grades are in and all end of grade testing has been done. I am starting to feel guilty about it though and need reassurance or opinions.

Should I leave everything as is? or switch to the following week and spend our anniversary at home. :confused3

Personally, I would pull my kids out of school. But, I know there are probably many here who disagree. If you think the kid's grades won't suffer and they won't really be missing anything, why not?

Although I do not yet have kids (so I might not be the best for advice LOL)
I would say that if anyone were to take their kids out of school the last few days would be the best time!

Did you ask them how they felt about it?

I don't think their grades would suffer because technically grades will have to be in so report cards can be sent home on the last day.

I asked the kids and of course they want to go as planned.

Thanks for the input.

Their grades won't suffer because they don't do anything the last week of school. I know here in NJ the last few days are even half days but ask the kids because it's usually their favorite time because the classes have end of year parties, they want to say their goodbyes, etc. If the kids don't mind then I would do it.

I'm taking my daughter out atleast the last day maybe the last two days - depending on when hubby can get out of work and depending on abscences since she already has 10. Although I asked the teacher about it and she said only 3 of the absences count since they are from accumulated unexcused tardies (yes we are bad parents and keep getting her to school late). But that's not the way the Manual worded it and I dont want to risk having to fight it out with the school just to leave a day earlier. however we aren't doing it for an anniversary. We are going on the 18th.

My DS is not in school yet. But when he is, if we want to go on vacation during school, I will have no problem pulling him out of school.

For you, it should really be no big deal. Their testing for the year will be done, all their grades will be in already. The only thing they are missing will be the end of the year parties & cleaning the classrooms (that is what we used to to the last week of school, helping the teach pack, etc).

Take the kids out of school & go enjoy Disney World!

Take em out! As long as they don't mind missing those end of the year parties. It's been said many times they aren't missing any "learning" during that time. Just make sure they have their summer book lists before they leave!

We're taking my son out the last day of school. I'd say as long as they don't mind missing the parties, etc, then go ahead and do it.

As a teacher, I wouldn't mind you taking them out the last few days of school. As long as the child makes up any needed work early I don't see it as a problem.
