We are leaving in 11 days for Disney. We are staying 9 nights at Disney and 4 at Vero. Our first night at Vero is in a 1 bedroom ON cash so about 315 with tax for that night. Then we move into two garden view rooms for the next 3 nights. Would it be worth it to use points and stay in a 2 br. that first night and not pay cash for the 1 br. Or will we have a big let down to leave that 2 bedroom after one night for 3 nights in two inn rooms. We are a family of 5 so we can fit in that 1 bedroom but of course we are paying cash. The points would have to be borrowed which I don't mind doing that. SO 34 points vs. 315 in cash??? What do you guys think???? There were no rooms on points available for weeks and weeks when I kept inquiring about the one night I have on cash. Then I just gave up a month ago and stopped calling. Just got a wild hair today to see what they had.

Honestly, $315 for one night seems very expensive to me. I'm not into borrowing points either, as we travel every year. Do you?

Is there a reason you HAVE to stay at Vero? Have you looked at other, non-disney accommodations for the first night just to see your options? Are you driving in, flying in and renting a car?

It sounds like you had been hoping for the room to become available on points, so just borrow. I would rather save the $300 in my "add on account" and buy more points later!

The actual cost for the one night on cash is 281.25 before tax ..is actually DVC discounted cash. We are driving and yes we want to stay at Vero. We are going to WDW for 9 nights ..staying at SSR. I didn't want to shorten Vero by a night since our older son wants a beach trip so bad and we have never been to Vero.

When I called MS back the 2 br was gone. She told me to keep checking though between now and our trip....you never know what would come up. I would like to get a 1 br. on points instead of paying the cash so I guess I can keep checking. I think it is too late to add a waiting list.

We have borrowed just about every year since we bought in 1997....if you want to stay there, borrow the points...that is why they let you!!

Why pay money???

If you won't miss the points by borrowing, I'd do it; it gets you a second bathroom and maybe avoids someone needing to sleep on pullout for the first night.

If you arrive early you never know, you may get into the villa without waiting. But even if it meant waiting until later in afternoon to get into villa it would bother me less if I was using points instead of cash; if I was waiting and waiting and paying $315 I'd keep running that number in my mind and then I'd be kicking myself for the cash outlay :-( I'd rather have the money to spend.

It really is a close call though if you try to compare "$ value" of points to the cash night cost , ie if you use $8 - 10 per point that is typically seen on rent/trade board then "value" of points needed would run between $272 - 340. But at least with points you would be getting a 2 bedroom villa !

ETA : sorry, I just see you posted again, YES you can waitlist up until 7 days before date you want or you can just call MS daily. When it is 7 days or less to date you want you can still keep calling daily for availability ( but if I remember correctly a cash night needs to be cancelled at latest 5 days before ? )

Best wishes & have a great trip !

ACK too much food for thought. :rotfl2: Okay I am going to KEEP on calling persistently and see if something comes up on points. Now I could KICK myself for not calling the past month. I truly figured it was a long shot. :

What about the $15.00 point thing from Disney.... You could some at $15.00 and borrow the rest!!!

If it becomes available again, I would use the points and save the money. Borrowing won't affect you until you get to a point where you can't borrow anymore.

And, that $300 can be saved and used to "rent" back most of those points through DVC when you need them.

I am going to call tomorrow and see if I can wait list that date. I am kicking myself for not doing it all along. I just figured it would never come up because Vero is so small. I didn't bother wait listing the Inn Rooms for that night because we need two inn rooms. I figured that was really a long shot. Two Inn rooms were available for cash but 225 each room. :scared1: SO in the morning I am calling and hoping I get lucky between now and then. How long will they keep an active wait list???

Up to 7 days before; <7 you'd need to call each day.

I just thought of something, it's a possibility, maybe a small possibility but it doesn't hurt to ask, if what you want is available on cash then ask MS if it is possible to take back villa from cash inventory over to points side. It may be possible for them to do since it's under 30 days, not all CM's are experienced with this so maybe ask for supervisor

Hope it works out & comes through for you !

Yes, happened to us summer 2008 at BWV, we wanted to add night in 1 bedroom to beginning of our stay. We were waitlisted and it was around 6 or 7 days before check in. But I think the success of this whole thing depends upon whether someone else is waitlisted ahead of you for same size villa on that date. Anyhow when I called MS I specifically asked isn't there a way that if what I wanted is available for cash that it can be brought back to points side, the CM put me on with another CM whom I presumed was a supervisor and I was on hold for quite awhile but in the end we got it & CM #2 specifically said she "pulled it over from cash".

I think had I not specifically asked that first CM I was on phone with wasn't going to suggest this possibility to me ( or maybe the CM just didn't know enough to do it).

Good luck :goodvibes

Hope it works out for you. The cash inventory that MS would pull the room back from would be from the inventory that they transfer over to CRO at around 30 days out ( if i remember correctly :scratchin, i read so much here on the DIS that sometimes I think that i'm just merging together different details :rotfl: )

Good luck and lots of pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

Right now I am on the wait lists for a one or two bedroom. I know it kinda seems a waste to get the 2 bedroom for ONE night and then check into two garden rooms the next day...but I want to experience the two bedrooms too since that is what we would normally get anyway. SO if we luv Vero....we will try and book a 2 bedroom for our next trip there.

I guess I will see what happens for now with the waitlist. I have until July 14th to see if anything comes up. If not...then I will call when we are 7 days out and see if they can PULL A MIRACLE for me. LOL
