Seriously, DH has decided we should consider moving to Orlando. Where can I get reliable info on where to buy a home (what area, I mean), what the different school systems are like (we have kids in every level of school), what the best hospitals to work in would be (we are both in health care), cost of living, crime rates, and generally everything else? I am very willing to consider this idea, although it certainly is radical, but want LOTS of information before making a decision. We plan to make a trip to WDW later this year, and plan to do preliminary legwork regarding jobs and housing at that time. However, any help you DISers could give me ahead of time would be great. Thanks. (I hope this is the right forum for this question.)

The Community Board might be a better place. There is more traffic there.

I can't help you with a lot of that stuff, but www.realtor.com is a great site to look at houses to get an idea of the average prices in each area.

It is amazing how much they are building around the Orlando area and its surroundings.(This thread will probably get moved to the community board). I can tell you though that the traffic up there is pretty bad, so hope you won't mind that, otherwise moving to FL is a good choice. You may have to get used to the really hot summers but you'll love the winters! And, if you're in the healthcare field I bet there's also a lot of opportunity anywhere in FL.

A good site to find out the answers to some of the questions you asked is: http://www.orlando.com/rel/index.asp

It talks about relocating to the area. Good luck.

I have read other replys to questions like this one on this site and other sites, and the consensus is that the schools in the Orlando area are having real problems. You might want to look into that further before moving since you have school age childeren.

The schools in most of FL are having problems, having to add portables before a new school is finished being built is happening everywhere (not just in FL from what I understand). The schools in our area are already overcrowded and they just keep building and building. (and the teacher's salaries are pitiful for what they do!) They've barely increased in 10 years!
