Help need ideas for tonight

Friends, tonight is my son's school play. I need an idea for something to give him after the finale. He would not appreciate flowers and would be embarassed if I did that. Does any one have any clever ideas? Remember I will need to be able to get this in a few hours. Thanks...............Tracy

For valentines I gave my DS/14 a small gorilla. When you push (his hand, I think) he sings 'Wild Thing'. I purchased it at Kmart -- and I think they carry something similar year round.

I have seen those animated things around...I will look at hallmark and walmart..... I also thought maybe candy but what kind of presentation? I feel the need because he is the lead in the play....and want to mark the occasion as special....Thanks

Okay, this may be corny but here goes: How about a trophy or statuette that says "Best Actor" or something along those lines (his own personal Academy Award)?

My DD does a lot of theater and we wanted something that would serve as a keepsake rather than flowers. We finally decided on an engraved 'star' from Things Remembered. At the final performance of each show, we give her a brass star with the name of the show, her character's name and the dates. You can get them in their stores or order it online at www.thingsremembered.com - just do a search for 'star'. And to your son, "Break a Leg !!"

What is the play? When I give fellow actors gifts, I try to make it go along with what the play's about. I'm in an English WWII play now, and I got each cast member some English tea and biscuits.

For Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up, I got everyone a bar of soap off the Internet that said it washed away sins.

For Molly Brown, everyone got a bottle of rootbeer that looked like real beer bottles.

Maybe you can find something that fits his play.

The play is a parody of Don Quixote. The perfect vehicle for his quick comic delivery. Ideas? Also someone suggested a candy bar bouquet. Does anyone know how to make one?

That's similar to what I was going to suggest. Some candy stores offer candy bouquets, where the roses are actually chocolate and they have them in a presentation bouquet. Not sure if you have any candy stores in your area, but you'd probably have to call them quickly. Good luck!

Kelli, I do those things too for fellow cast and crew members when I'm in a play. Back when I did "The Women" I came up with the idea of making my own candy bar wrappers (for Hershey w/almonds, cause all actors are "nuts"). I made a template on my Greetings Workshop program on the computer and printed, cut out, and wrapped each bar and glued it.

I put a symbol of the play on the front (for "State Fair" a pig and a piece of pie; for "Harvey" a rabbit, etc.) and on the back I list the director, music director (if applicable), the stage manager, etc.

They went over really big and I do it now for every show I'm in.

My mom gave me some chocolate "roses" that someone had made. They are really cute and she thought I might want to copy them.

Let me see if I can describe them. They took 2 kisses and a small piece of clear, red plastic. The kind you would put in a gift basket or something. They wrapped the kisses tightly, with the open part at one end. Then they taped them at the tip with floral tape. Next they attatched the rosebud to a floral wire with the same tape, adding a silk leaf near the bud.

I don't know how to post a picture, but I'd be glad to take one for you if you are interested in seeing them. Just let me know who to email it to and I'll take a digital shot. They'd be cute in a big bouquet and a boy would like them, I think.

I solved the problem with the help of a local florist. I called her and told her my problem and she offered to put the bouquet together for me if I brought her the candy. She is gonna use real greens and some babys breath. I am picking it up in a half hour. I cant wait to see it! Thank you all so much...you are so nice and helpful here!..........Tracy

I once made a Candy Bar Bouquet for my F-I-L after his leg surgery. You can make one in a basket but I made mine in a gift bag. You have to find that green styrofoam (?) that the florists use (or any as long as it holds up well) & I stuffed the bag nearly to the top with the stryrofoam. Then I taped an assortment of candy bars & bagged chips/pretzels, one to each popsicle stick (I purchased the popsicle sticks at Michael's Craft Store, the large ones, not the slim ones...they hold better. Then you just stick the popsicle sticks (with the attached candy) into the styrofoam in a nice display (the front ones stuck in the deepest, then the second row a little higher & the last row, a little higher yet.) Then I added some curling ribbon all over the candy bars (just maybe 2 inch strips of curling ribbon) to make it more festive looking & then I wrapped the entire bag/candy bouquet in the clear silouette paper & tied it off with a purple ribbon. It came out really cute....of course, I personalized my F-I-L's a little more by putting some gardening picks in it & some roasted nuts (which he adores).

I shipped it to California & boy was my F-I-L excited about it. Luckily, it got there in one piece!
