This is the first year I am truly stumped. I can hardly come up with anything for my DD10 for Christmas. She is not much help either. I know this means we have too much, and I agree we are truly blessed abudantly.

Any ideas for this age range out there? What are you buying your little ladies this age?

We have way too much American Girl, Build a Bear, etc and I think she is too young for cell phone, IPOD, (both of which she wants). I would be most grateful for any ideas as I can't even get started!!!!

IPOD and picture phone are at the top of my DD (10) list too. I wish I could help ya but I'm in the same position as you. I thought about Nintendo DS but she keeps changing her mind about it. She also wants a flute and $100. She'll probably get an mp3 player, PS2, scamps (some kind of dog thing), and money for sure. I'm not sure what else to get her. The tree will be bare.

what is with these crazy kids? it seems all the moms i talk to say their kids want ipods, cell phones and lap tops!!! money is not the issue, i feel like they are too young for such things. am i wrong?

What about some board games Mall Madness, Uno Attack, or Disney Trivia DVD would be great. You could give her something she could do outside like rollerblades, basketball net or a volleyball net.

My DSIS got DD an IPOD for her 10th birthday. She loves it.

I will be getting my DD 10 the Ipod shuffle for around $99
She will listen to music and maybe download some audio books. (We are big into books on tape). She will not be allowed to take it to school.
I am not sure what the difference is between that and getting her a CD player. (except for price!)
We will supervise her choices. Right now she likes listening to things that we approve of (ABBA and the Beatles- Disney Mania stuff like that)

She will also get some books, a calendar, and some of the American girl craft books. Lip gloss and a computer game (restaurant tycoon).

How about:

Good smelling lotions
Inexpensive body spray/perfume(we have a store called "Rave" in our mall which sells several knock off perfumes for $3.99 and DD13 loves them)
Belts~ Any and all, particularly those woven type. Also, if she doesn't have any of the sequin type belts those are very trendy right now
Hair Accessories~Rubber bands, headbands, little jaw clips, etc
Lip Gloss~Either the chapstick/smackers/bonnie bell stuff or the kind with a wand that dips into the gloss.
Socks~Funky, silly, weird socks
Room Accessories~moshi pillows, body pillows, bed sheets, cork board for the walls, poster putty
Scrapbook kit~ You could get her a scrapbook starter kit kind of thing. I think that would be a BIG hit. All the girls love scrapbooking!

Sorry I got DD 9 an IPOD. To me its the same as a walkman with no scratched or lost cd's. Why would you not want your kid to listen to music?
A cellphone I can see because that is too young IMO to keep track of minutes and so forth.

My 10 year old dd got the ipod shuffle for her b-day. It was all she wanted instead of a party or any other presents so we thought it was a great deal. She loves that thing and its been since June. By the way it is on sale at Sears this week for $79. She's a great kid and would be happy with anything so I loved getting her something whe really wanted. I'm stumped for Christmas too.

Mine wants the FLY pentop computer thingy. I think we'll let grandma get that for her. I got her Clue Mysteries, some notecards, lotion, books.

I think you are set for three years of Christmas gifts!!! The progression goes: Ipod, then cell phone, then laptop. The question is - when do you start?

DD12 has an Ipod - I actually gave her mine when I decided I ddin't use it very much. She had borrowed it for a school field trip and loved using it, so I passed it down to her. As it turned out, I got another for Mother's Day!!!

Cell phones and laptops seem to cause a lot more consternation with everyone, but if it's in your budget, I agree that an Ipod is not very different from a Walkman, which was the last new technology.

DD really likes that 20Qs handheld game. A friend of hers has it and it is very addictive. Does your DD have a subscription to American Girl Mag or the website? DD bought her own website subscription and she loves it. I am hoping Grandma will get her the mag subscrip for Christmas. She also wants a doorbell for her room, and last year, the top gift was a hair beading thingy. She still uses that. She also likes anything for her room. Girly bath stuff and gift cards to Barnes and Noble are also big with her. (She is 9.5 btw.)

Here are some things I've heard the 4th grade crowd asking for:

1. Fly Pen
2. Chat Now (if can't have cell phone)
3. VCam
4. MP 3 players (not necessarily IPods)
5. Video Game systems/games (PS2, Nintendo DS, XBox)
6. 20Q handheld game
7. Video Now XP
8. Scene It
9. Musical Instruments (guitars, drums, etc.)
10. Gift cards
11. Sports attire
12. "Cool" Hoodies

Good luck! :wave2:

Regarding the cell phone, how about a pre-paid one? I got my 10 yo DD a tracfone last summer and we haven't had any problems with it. She's had to learn to ration her minutes and she'll also work for more minutes.

I agree with what the others have said about IPOD.

How about Nintendo DS? Nintendo has great age appropriate games for kids. DD got one for her birthday and only plays Nintendogs.

Other than that, I'm not sure what she wants for Christmas. This year it seems that she just wants several small items rather than a bigger item like she usually does. I'll probably get her some DVDs, games for her DS, maybe a Walkman -- she doesn't want an IPOD yet.

I have a 10 year old DD and no idea what to get her either. She hasn't asked for anything yet so that doesn't help (my kids never do lists which makes shopping kind of a pain). I am trying to convince Dh that we should just get a big tv (projection 50+" deal) and call it Christmas, but he doesn't like that idea much.

I would go with the IPod and some I-tune cards. If thats what she really wants and she will take care of it, I don't think shes too young. Pre-teens are hard to buy for because they are getting too old for toys and are still young for teen items.

I was looking into the ChatNows but the other person has to be within a 2 mile radius so I don't think she'd get much use out of it.

We did the iPod last year only because we went to Hawaii this past summer and it was great for the trip. They take really good care of them and they've been no problem. Believe me, they appreciate and take care of the "important" things.

This year we can get iPod accessories like speakers, covers, etc. So I'm pretty much all set for this year. The only bummer is everything's so little, it's going to look like there's nothing under the tree.

Clothes are always a big hit.

My DD doesn't want me to buy her clothes. She wants me to give her money to buy them herself. Apparently I don't have the taste of a 10 yeard old girl. :rotfl:
