Hello Everyone! I have a dilemma and would like your input. I am getting married next October 2 and was planning to honeymoon in Hawaii because I've always wanted to go there. However, the more I look into it and see pictures of Hawaii, it's not what I thought it was. I like the really tropical feel, lots of palm trees, white sand, turqoise water. It doesn't help that I just went on the Disney Cruise for the first time in September, on the 4 night cruise. I want to go on a 7 night Caribbean cruise now (probably the Western)! I thought about doing that instead of Hawaii, but the only problem is that they all leave on Saturdays. My wedding is on a Saturday, so I would have to go the following week, which I think would kind of stink! I guess we could always fly to Vegas right after we get married for a couple nights to at least do something, but I would hate having to work the week right after my wedding and I don't have enought time to take off that week too if we went the following week. Why can't Disney have a 7 night that leaves on Sunday?! I need help! What would you do?

If you really want to go to the Carribean, the other cruiselines have ships that leave on Sundays. We are taking the Adventure of the Seas which is an RCCL ship out of San Juan. It goes to Aruba, Caracao, St. Thomas and St. Martin. It leave on a Sunday night at 10pm, so you would have plenty of time to get there after the wedding.

I have sailed both DCL and RCCL and find their service to be comperable, and the activities for adults in my opinion are better on RCCL, we are not heavy drinkers, but did like the abundance of bars with quite places to sit, as well as the happening bars etc. Also enjoyed the casino and the ice show, rock climbing wall, putt putt golf, etc. etc. etc.

Good luck in whatever you choose, and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

My daughter has the same dilema. She has been on a Disney cruise and loved it so much. She wanted to do that for her honeymoon, but it leaves on Saturday.

They decided to go on the Mariner of the Seas. That leaves on a Sunday from Port Canaveral. It was a second choice, but it works better because it has a Sunday departure.

I guess Disney doesn't really attract honeymooners as much as families. The only option if you really want Disney is to do the shorter cruise that leaves on Sunday.

I know you do not want to BUT... when I got married we waited a week before leaving on our honeymoon because it ment a difference in price. We honeymooned in Disney and that one week made a huge difference. We both worked a few days after the wedding the enjoyed a longer honeymoon because it was less expensive then leaving that day! It is really not that bad!!! So I would reconsider waiting a week to leave so you could get on the DCL ! Good luck!

If you want to do Disney and want seven days, have you thought about doing back to back cruises on the Wonder?

Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you on the Western leaving October 9, 2004.

I did it and it wasn't that bad. I really wanted to go on the cruise for my honeymoon, acutally we did the land/sea combo so we got married on Saturday and left the next Thursday. Some people that didn't realize looked at me real funny when I showed up for work on Monday but it was still nice. Since I chose to do it like that, I found some good points to doing it that way.

1. You can come home and look at all your presents right away (you never know, there might be something you could use on your honeymoon like $$$$)

2. If your moving from one house to another - you don't have to worry about what to pack for vacation and what to pack for the move. You can get all your "stuff" organized at your new home and then pack for vacation.

3. If you book your cruise in your married name you will have time to get all your legal documents changed to your married name. Note: I was told by my TA NOT to do this as it would be more complicated.

You will find MANY couples on the ship who decided to do it this way, too.

My one piece of advice if you do decide to go a week later - stay in a nice hotel or something the night of your wedding instead of going home. I had a room reserved and when we walked in in our wedding attire they upgraded us to a suite - very nice.

Marshmelo, what is it that's turning you away from your Hawaiian honeymoon? You said
it's not what I thought it was
What's different?
My DW and I did a Hawaiian honeymoon, 11 years ago, and it was a wonderful time. We spent 10 days, even after Hurricane Iniki, and still didn't get to see everything we wanted. Of course this was before we discovered cruising.
There is always the option of cruising the Islands.

Hello!
I think that since you got engaged on the DCL it would make for a very special Honeymoon. But ultimatly thats for the two of you to decide.
However, I think you will find that you will be totally exausted after the wedding, and not running right off to a honeymoon trip may be a good thing. If you have the time, take the week off in between and take some time with each other, and maybe if you have wedding guests coming in from out of town, you could spend a little extra time with them.
We got married two days after Thanksgiving and since we worked in retail, we were forced to take our honeymoon a few months later. While it was kind of hard going right back to work, we really appreciated going on our trip later!:earsboy: :earsgirl:

If your future wife is as excited about DCL and doing a 7 day as much as you are, there is still time to change the date to make it a Friday Night wedding.

Other wise, I'd suggest going with the suggestion of of back-to-back 4+3 day cruises (if you love the beach, you'll get to go to Castaway Cay twice, and if you're "busy" on the first cruise and miss Nassau, you can see it on the 3 day leg (4 day is Sunday to Thursday).

I'm all for waiting a week and taking the 7 day cruise. When my husband and I were married a few years ago we did that. I loved having some time after the wedding to just relax and enjoy the experience. Who said you have to leave on your Honeymoon the next day? Most of my friends who have done that have been too tired to enjoy thier vacations. Wedding days are very busy. Enjoy your wedding and your honeymoon!:sunny:
