I find that I am hungry more often now, almost like my body is burning off the food I put in it a bit faster, and I need snacks between meals. The tummy growls can be very embarassing.
So, here is the question -- what do you eat that you find to be very satisfying for the most hours?

I'm not sure what program your doing. I do WW's and here are a few.

Low fat plain yogurt with pineapple (tons of protein) and it really fillts me up. Points 3

Fruit - Fruit can be very filling.

Baby carrots

I often take a half oz of nuts (almonds 2 pts for 1/2 oz) and split half with a fruit for my morning snack, and half with a piece of fruit for my afternoon snack. The protein keeps my hunger at bay and you only need a small amount to help.

FF Refried beans with salsa - Really filling, but it can leave you gasy the next day.

My between meals snacks are usually fruit (doesn't fill me up for very long) or nuts (cashews or almonds - a serving is pretty satisfying).

Also, being low carb, I used to get really hungry when I first started the program and stopped eating bread so I would take a slice of deli meat (like chicken) and roll it up with 1/2 slice of cheese and nuke it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. I called it my afternoon "egg" roll. That's very satisfying. I haven't done that in a while, thanks for making me remember that snack. Yum. Anyway, I hope my suggestions help.

I snack all day long. I'm always hungry. I eat fruit, dried apricots, peanuts, cheerios, homemade pumkin or blueberry mini-muffins, celery and baby carrots.

I've found nuts to be a great go-to snack that really kill my hunger growls - which typically hit about an hour before dinner, right when I get home from work. 4-5 raw walnuts, or some dry-roasted/no salt pistachios or almonds, along with a bottle of water, do a fabulous job of keeping hunger at bay. I get some great nuts at my local farmer's market, but I've been eyeing the "Nut"rition mix from Planters as well.

Otherwise, I try to eat every 3 hours or so, to keep my engine running as much as possible. :) Breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner (biggest meal of the day), and dessert. I find that when I'm feeling hungry, it's usually time to eat again! Afternoons (like right now) are the biggest challenge, but some water staves off the worst of it, and I know dinner is just around the corner.

I have to agree - nuts - to be exact - macadamia nuts - 1/4c(2oz) serving fills me and keeps me full for a long time.

Sue :)

Thank you! I hadn't thought of nuts or dried fruits -- I thought I might need protein. I am going to go to the farmers' market this weekend and pick up some different varieties of nuts and will try them out. Great ideas -- I've jotted them in my little journal so I don't forget to buy stuff. Will also pick up lots of fruit. Somehow a cut-up apple or pear seems very appealing! :)

My fave filling snacks: a slice of WW bread with crunchy peanut butter, a mini bag of light popcorn, baby carrots, fatfree latte.

My mom and I like popcorn, and it can be very filling, and can be little calories, if you get the right stuff. I also like peanut butter, which isn't on-the-go, but if you are at home, it is very filling and good.

Another vote for peanut butter here....either a spoonful, or they make on the go tubes (think go-gurt, but peanut butter instead). Even one spoonful can be filling.

Another favorite is low fat cottage cheese and a small cup of diced peaches mixed together.

Get an apple corer/slicer. Mine has changed the way I look at apples. Before they were ok, a little annoying. Now I just slice and eat. So simple, yet so satisfying.

fiber is supposed to be very filling. I would think anything high fiber. If you aren't low carb maybe a high fiber ceral snack in between and protein from the milk will help you feel full for awhile.

If its right before a meal a good thing is a large salad. I always notice when I got to reastraunts if I eat a salad I'm stuffed before even half of my food is gone. ;) :teeth: One restraunt I often get a cold veggie platter as appetizer then a salad. Let me tell you I don't think I've EVER left there without some leftovers. :earseek: If I did it was because I didn't want to hassle bringing it home or had other errands to run and it wouldn't be good sitting in my car all evening.

Thanks for these great snack ideas. I too hit a wall in the afternoons and find myself trying to avoid looking at the kitchen. I am going to try the nuts along with the mini bags of light popcorn.

Thanks, everyone! I stocked up on shelled almonds and pistachios and sunflower seeds, and also bought unsweetened dried apple rings and banana chips. Used the almonds as a snack before going to the gym and they really staved off the hunger.

I am going to incorporate some of these other ideas into my daily snack routine too to get me from one meal to the next.

Thanks! :)
