My wife wants to get out of town for a few days and of course we want to go to Orlando, but as my moniker suggests I am no longer GrumpyDad2b but I am GrumpyDad. Actually thats most of the reason DW wants to get out of the house for a few days, she has been going a little stir crazy staying at home with DS. We are looking at Last weekend in Sept or first weekend in Nov.

I am looking for advice in how a 10 week old vs. a 16 week old will be able to handle a trip out of town. Is 6 weeks older really going to make a huge difference? Has anyone had a similar experience?

We are not planning on any park time. We would like to relax at a resort and have a couple of nice dinners.

Are we being selfish? Is our DS too young?

Help! Help!

Your DS will just go with the flow at either 10 or 16 weeks. Those 6 weeks won't make a difference.

Have a GREAT time! You are definitely not being selfish. A change of scenery is good for everyone at any age!

I would go in Nov. Its a bit cooler and so the baby can be more covered (from the sun) and still comfortable.

Actually I think an infant is the perfect age to take to EPCOT WS, if you wanted to.

I would wait for the 16 weeks because the baby will be sleeping a little bit longer/ going a little bit longer between feedings by then.

I don't think you are being selfish at all by wanting to take a trip. Your child will get 2 parents 24/7 for the trip, he will not be getting that at home at 16 weeks (unless you have some really cool benifits). And a happy Mommy makes for a happy Baby. That is a golden rule of parenting, take care of yourself.

The baby will need the same care at home or on a trip. I am sure he will only notice that Mommy is more relaxed, otherwise it really is not going to effect his world much. He will still eat, play, sleep, and fill diapers where ever he is.

I am a big fan of traveling while they are still young. Once they start to crawl there is more to deal with. The first 6 months are a golden window. We took our second child on his first over night trip at 2 weeks! We also took him to WDW at a year and to Yellowstone at 18 months! Our youngest had 3 international flights under her belt by the time she turned one! (That was need more than fun, flying with a baby and a 3 year old was not fun).

Go and have a great time!

We have PAP and go to parks and stay at resort often. The 1st time our youngest was at a park was 6 weeks for a few hours. His 1st stay at a resort he was almost 3 months old. It went well, we just had to do everything around his schedule. The baby care centers are awesome!

IME, yes - 10 weeks is different from 16 weeks, sure :)

We flew with DD when she was 8 weeks. She slept the WHOLE time. :)
She was a total angel and still had that precious newborn cry, so even when she did wake up during our trip, she'd just wah a bit and that was all.

By 16 weeks my kiddos were rolling over and a little more "sturdy" but also a bit more independent. This also means they were able to REEAAAALLLY cry and seldom wanted to be put down.

My opinion? When the baby is small, they sleep more, they eat more, and they're generally more adaptable.

But, when they're older (even six weeks time) they tend to be more attached to Mom and require a bit more of a schedule.

We went to San Diego- Sea World when my dd was 14 weeks old. She was perfect (except she got really sick and we spent a day at children's hosptial- they have a great hospital by the way!!!!!!!!) The plane ride was great, we got to eat at nice places and she was happy napping in her stroller/carrier.

We always took her everywhere, and she was the type of baby that liked lots of things going on :)

HAVE FUN!
