Help need advice: Checking liquids

I read on the TSA that you are allowed to check in liquids in you luggage. We are trying to save as much as we can by bring our own snacks and breakfast goods. We got a great discount through my DF work and they have unbeatable prices. We got tons of food for very little! We have suitcase for just food items (small carryone size) that we will be checking in.

My question: Has anyone ever checked in liquids? I am scared that the bottles will burst. I know that we could always send it ahead, but it is only for one case of small gatorade bottles. They are plastic and hold up to the shuffling... can someone put my mind to rest...

If you look/search for the water posts, you'll find that lots of people pack full suitcases of bottled water. There hasn't been much elaboration on other liquid items (juice, juice boxes, glass bottles of tea) but water has definitely been in checked luggage of our fellow DIS'ers.

I've packed liquids two ways. I have a soft-sided cooler that resulted in crushed yogurt the first trip. Now I put heavy cardboard in the bottom (cut to size), around the sides, and on the top. Works perfectly. I have also packed water bottles in a suitcase wrapped in clothes and towels. That worked really well, too.

I packed LOTS of juice boxes and Dole fruit cups in plastic containers and nothing exploded or leaked. Here's what I did: I put all of my food and drink items into a diaper box which I then packed in a duffle bag. I made sure that the diaper box was packed tightly and that the box fit into the duffle bag very snuggly. Years ago I heard Martha Stewart say that when shipping items, the more tightly they are packed the less likely you will have breakage. If things are too roomy in the box, they will just shift around and cause problems. This is one piece of Martha's advice that I can succesfully accomplish.

We've packed plastic bottles of water, juice and bathroom supplies inside the really large ziplock type bags (larger than the gallon size) - just to be sure. In 15 years we've never experienced any leaking.
