Help need a hotel in Miami

A group of us are cruising in November 2006 out of Miami. We had been quoted a great rate at the Marriot close to the port, however, since we never booked because marketing wanted us to wait until this month we cannot logner get that rate.

We want a hotel near the port that has a lounge and conference rooms. The marriot had orginially offered us a free conference room as well for a meet prior to the cruise.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Any sites to look at for a good rate. I am finding I can get a better rate online via a discount site than doing a group rate at the hotels.

We stayed last year near the airport at the Summerfield Suites. It was terrific. They had a free shuttle from the airport...as well as a complimentary breakfast buffet that was great. In addition, each room was a suite. Ours was a two bedroom suite that had two full baths. One room had a king, the other had two doubles and the living area had a double pull out sofa. It also had a little kitchen area with a table, fridge and microwave. I think I paid $159 per night. Plus...because I am a Wyndham By Request member, they had a wine and cheese basket waiting for us when we checked in. I would highly recommend this place. The ride to the port area was maybe 15 minutes tops.

We actually arrived around 8:30pm for a cruise the next day. I was nervous not staying exactly at the port, but the cab was like $20 and was an extremely quick ride.

If you don't need to be right at the port, this is a great place and one I would stay at again.

Happy planning!

If you are set on the Marriott, you could always sign up for their free rewards program. Sometimes the rates are cheaper for rewards members. To check, just go to the Marriott website and type in M11 for the promo code to check members rates.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Have you checked out the forum boards on CruiseCritic.com. They are a wealth of information and the people are as helpful as the Disboard.

I am not set on anything. I think our group had wanted to stay at the Marriott. If I was picking it would be a Hilton brand hotel. I have plenty of points and can stay free!! :cool1: But this is about the group not me. :)

I work at the Port of Miami and my vote is Intercontinental Hotel. That is a hop skip and a jump from the Port and it is very nice.

It is $300 a night though
