Help!! My teen has been charged. Any advise

Sounds like your attorney is wonderful. To bill your son directly will make an impact as well.

Best wishes to you. Since this is the first violation, I think you will make out okay.

I worry all the time when my two girls get to be teenage years. I pray for the best and try to steer them the right way.

However, I do remember my school years of partying:earseek: I was responsible and knowledgable and in the long run that is all I ask of my girls.

Thanks for the update!!

good luck.

He can potentially be denied access to any federal college money with any kind of drug conviction.

this is true, so definitely try to keep that part off his record. with a drug conviction on your record, federal financial aid will be denied. it's part of the higher education act amendments of 1998.

Tomorrow is the big day in court.....Say a prayer for us....The lawyer called today with some good news...he has worked out an agreement with the prosecutor.....The drug paraphanalia charge has been dismissed/dropped....so he is only facing a charge of minor in possesion alchohol and minor in possesion alcholhol on school grounds. The drug charge was the biggee....and I have no idea how he got them to drop it. It looks like he will have to do community service, pay about 300.00 in fines, attend a 6 hr class on alchohol awareness and meet with a probation officer for three months....if he behaves and gets thru the probation time the alchohol charges will be gone....something called deferred adjudication.
He will also have to pay the lawyer fee of 750.00. Our wonderful lawyer is setting up a payment plan for him to pay the fee.
I hope he has learned a lesson......
Thank you for all of the support.

Well....we got through the day at the Justice of the Peace Courts....Thank goodness we hired an attorney....Thank you to all of you for the great advise.....The attorney got the drug paraphanalia charge dropped completely. The prosecutor did not have the pipe and they had no proof positive that the residue was illegal drugs. He pleaded no contest to MIP of alcohol and alchohol on school grounds, with deferred adjudication after 3 months. . He agreed to 20 hours of community service, un-supervised 3 month probation, 325.00 fine, 6 hour alcohol awareness class.
The attorney had all the agreements worked out the day before and it was pretty streamlined.
The attorneys said something about getting the deferred adjudicaton espunged from his record after the probation period. My understanding is that if someone looked hard enough they can find a deferred adjudication and an espungment would erase that....
The attorney said that my son can honestly say on a job ap that he has not been charged with an offense as the deferred adjudication does not charge him...
The biggee that could have come back to haunt him was the drug paraphanalia charge.....and that is gone
I pray that this will make him think about things from now on....The lawyers explained to him that he got off on a technicality and that he probably would not be that fortunate in the future and to look at this as a real gift to be able to keep his record clean....

Glad everything turned out for him. Now hopefully he learned his lesson!::yes::

I know you are relieved it all turned out so well. Glad that it's over for you.

Glad to hear that it's all behind you now. I did some pretty stupid things at that age as well, but luckily turned out ok!;)
