Help! My hair! Bad things have happened!

OK, a few days ago I posted about wanting to make a change to my hair, blah blah blah.

Well, I've made a change allright. Things have gone horribly wrong. I tried lightening my very dark hair at home. (I know, I know but I figured it would be easy enough) The roots that were growing out from my last color job are now LIGHT and the rest is the color of orange sherbert. OMG, it's SO scary. Orange sherbert with lemon meringue smeared on top.

I don't know what to do. Do I just get a dark color and go over it? I don't have a real hairstylist anymore, she moved and I haven't found anyone else. I hate to just walk in somewhere blindly. UUUUGHHHH. Any ideas? Anyone in the DFW area have someone to recommend? Can it be fixed? Please tell me I won't have to go to WDW this way. I can't wear a hat everyday at work.

You'll most likely have to get it professionally fixed. I wouldn't even try it at this point w/o help either!

Since I am from Ohio, I can't help where to go. I found mine since it was a well known salon (a bit more upscale). Good luck!

That stinks! I'm sorry. I would ask around my friends in town and see if they could recommend someone to fix it. If all else fails, short hair is great in the summer.

Ok, I did the same thing awhile back and tried to fix it myself and eventually I ruined my hair and had to get it cut short. My best advice, just go to a salon and have it fixed. I've found the best way to find a good stylist is to just find a stranger with great hair and ask them where they go! Sounds silly but it works.

I used to dye my almost black hair blonde at home. I would bleach it first and then I would look like Rick Flair and then I would put a boxed blonde color over it (usually an ash blonde). Did you just bleach it or did you use a box color to begin with? You might be able to go to a store like a Sally Beauty supply and buy a toner.

You may not be able to get a color to uniformly adhere to it. If you don't know of a stylist, walk into a couple of salons and ask what they would do to fix it and ask what they would suggest. If the responses are consistant, go back to the one you like the best. My hair is light but I color it to cover the gray. It faded so much that my hair was grabbing too much ash from my usual hair color. I called Loreal and they told me that I needed to do a "tint back", which was to use #8G instead of just #8. Reluctant to do so, I went to my hairdresser who did not solve the problem, just made my hair lighter. I had to go back and she did it darker but it faded....again. Today I finally did the tint back myself and I really like it. I have color in my hair that took. Before I did it however, I walked into another salon where my sons go and I asked the hairdresser if she thought the tint back was what I needed. She said yes. Don't be afraid to ask. If they want you for a customer in the future, they will help in the short term.

My sister had this happen years ago. I believe they had to remove all the color from her hair. Then applied a color to it. I remember her having MAJOR roots. She eventually cut her hair pretty short. Find a professional. Just for info, my sister turned her hair a magenta color. I think it actually glowed in the dark.

but I think you had better find a stylist for some color correction help. This is serious business. I have dark hair too, and just recently I decided to have highlights. You can't just "make" dark hair lighter with drug store stuff. They have to literally bleach out the hair and then put the lighter color in over the bleached out strands. I just did highlights here and there, not my whole head. That's how my stylist explained it. You can color over it but with all you have going on, you better seek professional help. I hate to say it, but find the most expensive colorist in town and go there. Before your trip. I know what you mean, I can't go visit Mickey if my hair isn't right.

I went to my hairdresser who did not solve the problem, just made my hair lighter. I had to go back and she did it darker but it faded....again.

In light of Dawn's response, you might even want to consider a salon that has a colorist. Hair color is their specialty and he/she would probably fix your hair right the first time.

If I remember right Toni & Guy has stores in the malls there. They have separate people there for everything. Colorists, haircutting, nailes, waxing.

Call there and let them know you're looking for some corrective coloring.

I can't seem to find the name of the place I used when I lived in Addison. It was Frankfurt and Addison Road I think. Kim there did a good job with my hilights, but she also did cutting and brow waxing for me too.

The rep I got was extremely helpful. She asked a bunch of questions, then told me exactly what product to buy to remedy my faux pas. It really worked. However, I no longer try to do it myself anymore...not when I'm dealing with any form of lightening on my red based hair!!!!

This is a good idea, call the number on the box. I no longer do my own hair, but when I did and it went wrong I called customer service and they were a big help. This is the next best thing to finding a colorist.
