Okay, since our family will be in DC for 2 weeks for Xmas, my mom, dd and I are planning to go to NYC, just overnight. We will leave on Monday Dec. 22 at 7:30am and arrive in NYC at noon. Then home the next day, leaving NYC at 4:30.

It's kind of crazy, I know, but we're from CA and this is kind of our chance. We are staying at the New York Marriott® Marquis, which is on 1535 Broadway, near W 46th Street.

Our plan is to try and see Times Square, some big stores decorated for Xmas, and a Broadway play (from a half price ticket broker).

DD would like to see the American Girl doll store and the Build a bear (she's 14, probably won't stay long, but she would like to see these "biggies" of her childhood). I'd like to see the Disney store!

So, please help me!! We will likely try to walk to most, maybe a cab or two.I know nothing!!

I don't think it is crazy! NYC is a great city! We were there a few weeks ago. We stayed at the Marriott Marquis. It is an EXCELLENT location. You are very conveniently located. When we arrived, I looked to the right and saw that the theatre for The Lion King (the first show we were seeing) was directly to the right of our hotel. I looked to the left and the theatre for The Little Mermaid (the second show we were seeing) was right there. You are right in the heart of the theatre district.

Two restaurants are right there near your hotel too. Carmine's is excellent if you like Italian food. It is served family-style though and is a lot of food! John's Pizzeria has really good pizza. Of course, you can also find cheaper, more authetic food in Little Italy, but seeing as you have little time, you might want to eat close to your hotel.

Build-A-Bear and the American Girl store are within easy walking distance from your hotel, as is Macy's and Rockefeller Center. The Disney Store is a bit further, but still walkable. If you choose to go to FAO Schwarz (up 5th Ave. from BAB, the American Girl store, and the Disney Store) the Plaza Hotel will be directly across from you and you will be at the SE corner of Central Park. You can also take a short horse-drawn carriage ride in the park if you'd like. You could walk to all of these places and then take a cab back to Times Square if you want. We did a lot of walking in NYC and enjoyed it. We only grabbed cabs when we were tired of walking or when it rained.

Hope this helps!

I just stayed at The Marquis for a Medical Conference... very nice! :goodvibes Have a great time!;)

Just remeber - you are going at the highest tourism & shopping times. Your visits to American girl & disney may be a complete mobscene!

I recommend Spamalot for a show - I know its closing soon, but if it is still playing that day, see it!

Also, remember, not all shows play on Mondays.

DH gave me the most amazing b-day gift a few years ago... New Year's Eve in Time Square!

Seriously, it was the absolute craziest time to be in NYC, but it was utterly fabulous. So even though you will be there at a crazy time it is doable and enjoyable!

My biggest suggestion would have to be a Broadway show. We had tickets ahead of time for Mary Poppins (AWESOME) and decided to do another show one afternoon and ended up at Beauty and the Beast.

As far as shopping, just walking 5th Avenue was wonderful, and you can end up in Central Park very easily. You'd be suprised on how much ground you can cover in one day! We were only there for three days and saw almost everything we wanted to see - I think the only thing we didn't get to was Magnolia's for cupcakes!

Have a wonderful time!
