Any advice is welcome!! He has a cold and we leave Wed for our big trip. It almost always becomes the croup. What to do???

This always happens to us! I feel for you!

You might want to ask his ped for Otic ear drops if you are flying. Our ped always makes sure we have some. It helps with the pain. Don't use them if there is an infection, tho.

I don't know about croup....are there any products like zicam for kids?

My DS did this a few years ago right before a trip to Myrtle Beach. I called the Pediatrician and explained that we were leaving on vacation and what to do. They told me to bring him in and they gave him a five day antibiotic that did not make him drowsy or irritiable. He was feeling better by the next day. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name.

Get him to the Dr and get all the meds you can... but at least your taking him somewhere that he will be out in the nice warm sun and fresh air all day - that always makes anyone feel better - not to mention seeing Mickey!

Probably zithromax, that's normally a five day 'sript.

We have had issues (specifically when our twins were two....) about getting antibiotics unless they HAD to have them. Now that they're 5, and with a new one, our ped is a little more willing. Haha, he knows my kids are sickies, apparently!

OP, there are doctors that you can see there if you can't get help right away before you go. Check with your health insurance plan to see what would be covered. I know, I just added to your to do list, when you have a sick kid and enough to do to get ready!

Good Luck! (as a by the way, avoid omnicef if they give you an antibiotic. You don't want to deal with those intestinal issues at WDW. BTDT, a year ago now with 2 five year olds. we ran for potties, and sometimes didn't make it....and they were totally potty trained. It was awful!)

Thanks for the help. He is on pulmicort and arbuterol nebulizer treatments. We are going to take the nebulizer with us. No antibiotics right now. He gets diarrhea with them and I am NOT having that!! Luckily we only have a four hour drive and no plane ride:) Just giving keeping him off dairy and hydrated. We atleast have two days to try and improve the cold symptoms. Send us pixie dust our way!!

HUGS

My DS who is 16 mths is recovering from RSV and also has asthma - so we are quite familar with the pulmicort/Abuterol neb treatments.
We are 40 days out from our vacation and sadly expect the same situation - sickness :(

I think its wise to take his nebulizer with him - we take ours even if he is healthy if we are going out of town. Just do 4 hr arbuterol and 2x a day pulmicorts and you should head off it from getting worse

hope he gets better soon
