HELP....my Christmas Tree is wilting!!!!!

Make sure you don't have is set directly in front of a heat return. If it is, your blowing hot air on it all day, helping to dry it out.

Ours is dropping needles way too fast this year. I usually keep it up until Jan 6th, but I don't know if it is going to make it this year. We cut it ourselves, so I know it was "fresh" and we haven't done anything differently this year. Well, except that it fell over once...maybe that's our problem.

I hope someone has some ideas for you and that it lasts as long as you need it to.

Thanks.....I would expect it to lose needles before getting wilted. The ornments are going to be falling off it soon.

It's been so long since I've had a real tree, I don't really know.. How long ago did you buy it and put it up?

Here's hoping someone can come along and help you.. Oh - did you try Google to see if there were any suggestions there?

I know that with some plants you can put things like an asprin in them, like roses. I don't know about a tree. Oops, just saw where that was a myth. It did say to make sure that you don't have too many lights on it. It may get too much heat from them.

Replace the water with Sprite. Honestly. We had a tree one year that dried out and looked terrible way before Christmas. We were discussing the situation while shopping for some decorations at the Home Depot and some random guy suggested we try it. The stuff worked like a charm, perked the tree right back up. It also works for great for cut flowers--they never droop or wilt, just go from healthy to perfectly preserved.

Well that's your problem.

You simply cannot expect a fresh cut tree to last that long inside a heated home. Its very RARE to get one fresh enough to make it a full month or more.

When I was a kid our fresh-cut trees weren't put up inside until 6-8 days before Christmas to last through New Year's.

Not true. We put ours up the first weekend of December every year. And it always lasts until January. A lot has to do with the variety of tree. We always get a spruce usually blue. If you get a fir they are more prone to wilt.
Ditto adding sprite or prolong. That may help

Mine went up the day after thanksgiving and its still fresh and it smells wonderful. Its a great tree and I only paid 10.00 for it. I am truly impressed.

just put sugar in the water and drilled a few holes in the trunk to let the water soak in. If I had a baster to get the water out I would try the sprite.

Is your house drier this year, than past years? It could be that you need to water the tree more often.

I know growing up, in the winter mom liked it hot in the house and to counter the dryness, we had to run the humidifier. During the time the Chrsitmas tree was up, we ran it so that it put out even more mosture into the air.

Oooh great thread! This is my first year with a real tree, we got it the weekend after thanksgiving and it's starting to look a little sad. It was doing fine until Florida decided to freeze over and we had to turn the heat on, now it's definitely drooping and there are pine needles everywhere! I'm going to put some sprite in the water and see if it perks it up. Thanks for the info
