Was supposed to leave in 2 weeks for Coronado and friend just told me today that she must cancel because her brother is in hospital and is not expected to make it. Aside for feeling bad for her, now I have to deal with cancelling the trip. At this late date, I'm unable to find someone to take her place. After over a dozen trips this is the first time we got the package and the whole trip is paid for. Will Disney credit us the cost and let us reschedule the trip for Spring or will we lose our money? And how soon must we reschedule? We are booked on Airtran and I'm not sure of their policy either.

Wow, I am so sorry for your friend. And for you, too. It's always disappointing to have to postpone a vacation.

You should be able to call Disney and put the trip off to Spring and have the funds applied. I'm not sure if they'll charge you a change fee or not. If you cancel outright, you lose $200 and get the rest back.

I would go ahead and postpone it to whatever time you both think you can get away in the Spring. Check and see if you can get in on any deals, like the "free dining" promotion, that may make your funds go further. You can always call and move it again before you hit that 45-day window if you need to.

I don't fly often so I can't help you with the plane fare refunds. I think you might just lose that money, but I'm not sure.

I'm sorry for your friends ill brother. :grouphug: She should call Disney. They are very good about working with people. I'm sure they will allow her to reschedule with no loss even though she is only 2 weeks away.

I'm sorry about your friend's brother . As Claire&TheBoys said, you should be able to reschedule for spring and not lose any money. Cancelling all together would cost you $200, but if you move your trip to a later date, everything will transfer to those new dates and you won't be charged a fee. Free dining is still being offered through March, so if your spring dates fall within that promo, that would save you some money.

As far as your airfare......we have never had to cancel flights and now we fly SWA, so I can't really help with that. But I do know that there is usually a hefty change fee plus any difference in fare, but I would call AirTran and explain the situation and see if they could do anything without you paying a fortune to reschedule.

Disney has a new policy where any changes made within 14 days, there is a $15.00 charge.

Also, Airtran does charge a fee and will only issue you a credit. Here is from their website:

Cancellation Policy

To cancel a reservation, please call AirTran Airways Reservations at 800-AIR-TRAN or 678-254-7999 in Atlanta. Reservations must be cancelled at least one hour prior to departure, and there is a $75 fee per passenger to cancel a reservation. The remaining balance will be placed in a credit file, which may be used for future bookings for up to one year from the date of the original booking. Failure to cancel reservations one hour prior to departure will result in the forfeiture of airfare.

To address the 15 change fee within 14 days is false

The correct policy is as follows

Within the 45 days you may be assessed a 200 cxl penalty. Call and speak with the reservation agent. They will assist and guide you on the best course of action.

If you modify your reservation within 45 days and the price goes down you will be charged a $50 fee and a $15 processing fee. The 15 fee covers new documents which have to be printed and sent out for your vouchers as the vouchers now have to match what your package consist of.

As for airfare you need to check with them. If you booked your air through Disney call in and ask to speak with air operations

Do you have the trip insurance? If so you call travel guard and they will assist you as well.

Hope that helps with any confusion on fees

So sorry to hear about your friend's brother. Hope everything work out for all concerned. Good luck!

Update....

We won't be cancelling the trip after all. Friend's brother has improved
but is still terminal so pushing our trip back till Spring might be worse.
Just want to thank all that took the time to come to my aid...appreciate the advice...and hope that I don't have to worry about it again!! LOL

I am so sorry for the prognosis. :grouphug: Prayers to him and his family.
It may be a good thing your friend is going to help get their mind off things for a little bit.:flower3:
