Okay heres another question for everyone? If my flight gets cancelled Delta said that I would be eligible for a refund........so has anyone ever considered renting a motorhome to drive to Disney? There are 13 of us going together. COming from COlumbus Ohio:eek: so my question is are we insane. Any weather advice? November 30th thru Dec 6th is when we would be traveling. Or would you all just try to find an alternate flight? Any info would be great!! thanks!

Count on it taking you longer in a MH than in a car. What do you plan on doing with the MH once you get there? How big is it? We drove down from Indy to WDW last year with a camper. It takes 2x the amount of gas as well as longer drive time. You must consider this as well.

Check out the "camping" board on here for more helpful info.

I don't think I've seen a motorhome that would comfortably and safely seat 13 people, let alone sleep that many (assuming you are looking at it to spend a night or 2 on the road).

I think personally that you would be much better off trying to rebook via Delta on another flight. The drive is a lot longer, so that eats into your vacation time, and it's not nearly as safe. The gas costs (as was mentioned) for a motorhome can be very high.

I will disagree that it may take longer in a motorhome than a camper. We have a 5th wheel, and it takes us no longer to get from point A to B than it takes a camper. We used to have a Class A motorhome and it didn't take any longer to get around in it either. Your milage may vary :)

FMickey: Sorry, it was early in the morning. I messed up. I meant it would take longer in/with an RV than just a car. I also agree with you about the safety of transporting 13 in an RV of any type.

Maybe you could ride the train or bus or rebook with Delta. Also, if you need to be used to driving with an RV (of any type). It's not as simple as you thing. Especially when trying to find large gas stations to accomodate you. That's always fun, but you learn which ones to go to with experience.

I also agree with you about the safety of it? The people that are going with us are big time campers and very familiar with the ins and outs of RVS. There are 3 men on this trip and they all think that they could share the driving. I know nothing about RVS other than riding in one>HA! There are small kids involved and the Rv that we found seats 10 adults. I really don't know how this will work. This whole thing is giving me a stomach ache! how much more time do you think this would cost us?

I agree, there are no RV's out there that can safely transport 13 people. No way, no how. And in some states you could actually get ticketed for it.

That said, RV's don't exactly fly down the highway. They get between 7-10 mpg, so my guess is taht anything you save in airfare will be more than eaten up by RV rental fees, insurance (yes, unlike rental cars it's mandatory to take the insurance on the RV) and fuel. If you are travelling on any toll roads the tolls will be higher than a regular car.

Now, as far as time, I figure it would take at least 30 hours from NJ to Orlando in an RV. Like I said, you can't go fast in them. Even with delays, unless weather is involved, in which case you will likely also be delayed in driving, it does'nt take that long to fly.

But I guess it's all moot anyhow, because you can't put 13 in an RV.

If you are that desperate, get hold of one of the Stage Coach companies and check on the rates for a weekly rental with driver, you would get a luxury coach with 12 bunks and a rear lounge which would sleep two. Video games, satllite tv, great stereo systems, etc.

Depending on the time of year, they *can* be somewhat negotiable, but it's not gonna be cheap.

Personally, I'd just stick with the current plan and fly.

Yup! Your insane!(lol!) Definitely fly. Back in '84 we drove down in a motorhome, (from Baltimore, Md), and it was a loooooooong trip.....

Thanks guys I think I pretty much made up my mind that I will try to fly and if we can't I will Drive with just my family (6) in our mini van. We have done this before and it can be done again! i think that if my friends choose to do this they will re think when they find out how much trouble it will be. Thanks again you guys are great. THis is so addicting Yikes
