Hello everyone.

dw and I have been discussing a trip to WDW for just the two of next summer. We have been 3 times since 2004 with ds. We haven't taken a trip for just us sice he was born in 2001. We told him about our idea and he is not happy. Big time guilt trip.

How did those of you who went through this deal with it?

I won't have told him.

you and your spouse need some time alone.

sometimes white lies work best - find a place your child would NEVER want to go and tell him you are going there. If he asks.

We did this December 2006. It was so nice w/o DSs.

How we handled DS8: Honesty is the best policy. Promised him a trip as soon as school was out in May (annual passes). Let him in on some of the planning / choosing (w/ lots of parental guidance) for the May trip. Explained to him that Mom and Dad need to be alone some times. Explained that we would be doing more grown up things and that he would probably be bored. Kept reminding him he had some planning to do for "his" trip. After the initial explanations, we did not mention it much, just tried to keep it low key.

Oh yeah, also had to promise not to ride certain rides w/o him or go to certain restaurants w/o him (little white lies of course......no, just out and out lied about that one). There is no way I am going to WDW and not riding my favorite rides (POTC and Haunted Mansion)

Good luck w/ the explanations. You will have a great time. BTW, I got a lot of moral support from the Family Board.
