I could very well be posting this on the wrong subforum but I'm not sure which one is the best fit.

I am trying to price out a package price for myself, who will be traveling with another adult and her two children, staying in the same room. What is the best way? Looking at prices for two adults, dividing that, and then contributing that amount to a trip for two adults and two kids? With Disney's single traveler supplement for the resort, I can't look at prices for just one adult and I want it to be fair for us both.

where do you see the single supplement? the cost of the room is the same for 1 person or 4 people. so i would just take the price of the room and your share is 0.25% of it. if it's a close friend/family and you want to be generous, you can do 50% of the room since kids aren't contributing to the cost. and tickets are per person pricing.

I wouldn't do a package, just price out a room only / double occupancy (kids are free) and split that with the other adult. Then everyone buys the tickets they need on their own. Once you check in you can each add a cc'd for charging back to the room if you like.

I would price out the package for 2 adults - your cost will be 50% of that price. Then re-price it with the children added and subtract your cost so the other adult will know what his/her cost will be for him/herself and the two children. The room cost will stay the same - the price differential will be the cost of the tickets (you will pay for 1 ticket, other adult will pay for 1 adult, 2 child tickets)

It sounds like you are trying to come up with a way to split the cost of the trip with another party. I think the 50/50 split for the room would make sense and as someone else mentioned, the room price is the same for up to 4 adults so you each gain a benefit from this arrangement. Tickets are sold per person so you can easily determine those prices based on how many days you are buying tickets for.

I am not familiar with "Disney's single traveler supplement" so can't comment on that. If you and the other party are having issues figuring out how to equitably split the room cost, then perhaps you might each consider having your own room. Is the question how to handle the credit card charges?

If you will be getting your own queen bed, you pay 50% of the room charge, as though only you and your friend were staying there.

If they are going to have the 2 kids share the other queen bed and relegate you to a daybed or make you share a bed or something, you should pay 1/3 the room charge.

Don't book a package. Book a room only and then buy the tickets separately. This way you can each pay your share of the room and then you buy your own tickets. There is ZERO benefit to booking a package. You don't save any money or anything and you get a more strict cancelation policy.

Great point about sleeping arrangements and % of cost - totally agree.

I think what the OP meant by single traveler "supplement" is that a there is no discount for a single traveler, rates are based on double occupancy. Industry standard is 2 adults and often up to 2 children stay free. I travel solo often and never found a room that offeres any type of single traveler pricing or discount for a solo.

Package bookings:
  • includes resort room, tickets and dining is available for 2024
  • note tickets will be valid for full length of stay, which is helpful if you are doing fewer park days with more non-park days
  • $200 deposit, balance due 30 days prior to arrival
  • cancel until 30 days prior to arrival with no penalty; within 30 days it's a $200 cancellation penalty or possibly a $50 change fee (if making a change vs full cancellation)

Room-only booking:
  • includes just the resort room
  • tickets must be purchased separate (and paid in full at time of purchase); valid use window based on start date and length of ticket
  • no option to add the dining plan
  • deposit equal to 1 night's stay, so this amount will vary by resort; balance due on arrival
  • cancel until 5 days prior to arrival for no penalty; within 5 days the cancellation penalty is the deposit amount, or possibly a $50 change fee (if making a change vs full cancellation

To price a package, yes you can do as you suggested above and price it out for 2 adults then 50% is your share; reprice with the kids and subtract your share previously calculated, other adult pays the remainder.

Or book a room-only resort reservation. Split 50% (as 2 adults) or by # of beds or whatever you feel is appropriate. This may depend on the relationship within the party (grandma, mom, 2 grandkids or boyfriend/girlfriend plus her kids, etc.). Then purchase tickets separately, either direct through WDW or through an authorized reseller.

With Disney's single traveler supplement for the resort,
The cruiseline charges a single supplement in that the full fare (minus taxes) is the same for 1 guest per stateroom or 2 guests in the stateroom. But I've never heard of a "single traveler supplement" for WDW resorts. The room rate is the same whether it's occupied by 1 person, 2 people, or the max occupancy (some rooms up to 6 or even 9) unless there are more than 2 adults in the room. That's pretty standard at least for US hotels.

That's basically what I mean by the supplement. I want to contribute what is fair for my portion of the room but it's impossible to tell what one person would be because the room is the same for one or more. That's why I assumed pricing out the package for two and then dividing it would be the best way.

I did try that as well and it's coming out to about the same, so I guess dividing the package by two and using that amount for me, is the best way.

This ^^

It was just a way to describe what I was trying to explain, very poorly.

A package would include tickets, and dining plan if you buy that. The children would be charged for tickets and dining (if 3 or over) so if you divide in two you would be paying for one of the children. Is that what you want to do?

The division would be from a package for two people (no dining). I'd then take that half and deduct it from a package for two adults and two children (without dining). They'd be paying for one adult and the two kids, and I'd be paying for one adult.

At least I think... it's all making my head hurt. I'm waiting to hear back from my TA.

Next up do you each have your own MDE? Figure that all out before you book or make ticket decisions.
