Helping a friend plan a trip and want to give the basic differences between the different categories(not the specific resorts) Here's what I've got so far:

Deluxe
Queen Beds
Interior Room Entrances
Jacuzzi by the pool(no jacuzzi at Poly)
Pool slide
Largest Rooms
No Food court
Sit Down Restaurant
Valet Parking
Monorail to some

Moderates
Double beds
Exterior Room Entrances
Jacuzzi by pool
Pool Slide
Food Court
Sit Down Restaurant
Avg Size Rooms

Values
Double Beds
Exterior Room Entrances
No Jacuzzis
No Pool Slides
Food Court
No Sit down Restaurant
Smaller rooms
Farther from parks

So, can you help me further compare/contrast them?

Thanks!

Deluxes do not have food courts.

At the Poly the sink was inside the bathroom & they do not have a hot tub.

At All sTars & POFQ the sinks were outside the bathroom. So I think you have the bathroom sink thing mixed up.

Thanks Kae!
I'm going to edit my OP with each difference so in the end I have a complete list.

The deluxe resorts do not have food courts, but they have counter service restaurants. Pre-made sandwiches, fruit, snacks, some grilled items, salads, drinks (including refillable mugs), etc., may be purchased at these locations.

Some of the deluxe resorts have spas and exercise rooms.

Some of the deluxe resorts have beauty palors.

I just wanna be able to say "do you want a deluxe or a value?" and when they say "what's the difference?" to be able to give them a brief rundown of the differences. It'll give me a clue as to what they are looking for.

I appreciate any compare/contrast type info you can give me.

We have only stayed at deluxe hotels but I believe the moderates and values had exterior room entrances where the deluxes have interior corridors.

deluxes have concierge, valet parking while moderates and values don't

deluxes have at least one counter service, one table service restaurant, one signature restaurant, & lounge

moderates don't have a signature restaurant (like Cali Grill, Jiko, etc) but they have table service restaurant, except for POFQ

values only have food courts.

I have stayed at POR and WL. Thought WL was a gorgeous resort I thought that the moderate POR was just as nice. They both have water slides and the rooms are about the same size. I even got upgraded at WL and still thought that POR was just as good and less money spent. Really the only difference I saw was that WL have a few amenities that POR did not but it didn't wow me for the extra money it cost. POR is a beatiful resort.

I tried to skim the posts so if this is a repeat I appologize.

Deluxes have the big sliding glass door that lets light into your room. The mod's & values don't so the rooms are darker (to me that is).

Deluxes also allows you to order food from a menu and delivered to your room. Also some deluxes have balconies.

I'd say location, money, and views.

It might be easier to start with a budget and then compare specific resorts based on taste and activities - such as water mice at the deluxes.

I believe the AKL and the WL have smaller rooms than the other deluxes. These smaller rooms are comparable to the moderate rooms.

The deluxes have 2 of 3 modes of transporation to the parks - monorail, bus, boat. Whereas the moderates and value have 1 - bus.

Personally I prefer the deluxe resorts however they are a lot of money for the average family. For us it's at the high end forcing us to save our money. We've stayed at the CR and the Swan and loved both resorts. I would not shy away from the moderate resorts just because the seem to be not as nice just because they are less expensive and don't have as many ammenities. I think each resort offers a truely unique experience. Our friends with their DD5 came back from their first onsite WDW trip the first week of February. They stayed at the CBR and absolutely loved it.

It's really combination of what you can afford and what you think you might like. Don't worry about it too much. No matter where you stay you'll have a GREAT time.

- The only resorts with direct monorail access are deluxe resorts.
- Boat rentals are available at all resorts with water including Fort Wilderness(the value resorts are not on water).
- Bunk beds are available at AKL, WL and are standard in the cabins at FW.
- The value resorts tend to be noiser since they have more rooms.
- Deluxe, moderate and Home away from Home resorts tend to have significantly more landscaping (trees) than the values.

If you care to add in the Home away from Home category:
