HELP ME with luggage scales

Okay, we have three -- one digital and two with the dial that registers when you lift. Every one of them has been incorrect in weight and changes weight every time you test it. The dial ones just stop moving at all and registering the weight! One time it's 5 pounds, another 35 pounds!

Has anyone found a reliable luggage scale so I can avoid getting hit with overweight fees at the airport? Thanks much.

I use the Ebags GripScale Digital and have never had any problems with accuracy. It came in a cardboard tube that I keep it in. I always take it with me whenever I travel.

We just use the bathroom scales. Step on holding the bag. And then step on without the bag. Subtract.

I have the Precision Voyager Digital Luggage Scale w/ 110 lb. Capacity & SmartGrip by EatSmart. We allow 2 lbs variance but the readings have been consistent.

I guess I figure we're not packing more to come home than to get there. So the weights should remain pretty stable. We have a small hand-held scale that DH got for free from some travel thing he did. It seems to work fine. I'll see if I can find it.

News flash -- even airport scales are unreliable. We always "underpack" by a few lbs so if/when the airport scales are wrong, we're still good to go.

When we flew home from New Zealand, they even weighed our carry-ons. Hadn't ever heard of that one, and my carry-on was just a tad over weight. So I pulled my leather jacket out, and put it on, and the carry-on was within the weight limit.

I've seen guests bringing suitcases to ship guest services to be weighed. So they may still have luggage scales available for guest use. YMMV

We purchased the Camry 110 lb luggage scale from Amazon. I just logged on to check for what we bought and it's on a lightening deal for $6.79! We've had great luck with it -it has always matched the airline scales. We've had it for 18 months, and haven't needed to change the battery yet. It is small and packable. We also underpack by 1-2 lbs just in case the airline scale is off.

Sorry can't help out here, but maybe bring you a smile - this query made me think of a passage in a BBC radio comedy show called "Cabin Pressure" (highly recommended):
"Man with one altimeter, always know height; man with two, never certain."

I only have one travel scale so never had any doubts!

Yep. But it is nice to weigh the bags at home before I get to the airport to make sure they are under the limit Much easier juggling items in the comfort of my home than on the floor of the airport.

I own two luggage scales. The eBags one is the only one I now use. The other one I got many years ago when such devices first came out. It has a hook you have to put the bags on and hang them from. It works fine accuracy wise but is a bit challenging to actually use. I ended up adding a dog collar to create a loop to hand the bags by.

The eBags one has its own loop you hang the bags by. No hook. MUCH better design.

If the scale is inaccurate.... get rid of it.

I like the convenience of digital scales. Although I hate it when the battery unexpectedly goes dead. I go to my backup analog scale.

When choosing a scale.... look closely at the hook. Is it too small (narrow) for some luggage handles.

We prefer packing light, then not having to worry about any scales, dimensions, #'s, at any point regardless of security check point locale.

Of course, been there done that in the past as newbies. So, .....

Live, learn.

Trick is to enjoy the path, ... regardless of weight.

I bought a cheap one from boscovs and it works great. Don't know where it's at wife puts it away somewhere.

I like to be around 43 pounds or less going out.

On the way there you will have soap,shampoo, deordant, sunscreen, etc. that you won't have coming back.

On the way back your clothes will weigh a little more from sweat.

On the way back you will have more stuff. More clothes that you bought as souvenirs. Stuff that DCL and DVC gives you. Also gifts for people.
