I’m just wondering what everyone has used (or plans to use) in regards to logistics for Alaskan excursions. Ours are all mostly sightseeing based (train, Mendenhall glaciers, photo tour). I know we’ll need a backpack or two for water bottle, kids’ snacks, extra layers, etc. I’ll also have a dlsr camera with a 300mm zoom lens around my neck while at the excursions. I don‘t particularly want to keep my wallet/phone in a backpack but I don’t want another strap to contend with either. I’d appreciate any ideas! Tia!

I am bringing a crossbody sling style. Originally to accommodate my large binoculars. Now I'm bringing a much smaller monocular I'm thinking my sling bag is too large. We are also travelling with a large backpack and carry on size luggage. Wallet in the cross body, phone and passport in the safe. We're bringing mostly cash to spend. Dont trust my cc companies to play nice. You now how they love to txt you over anything.

I actually am a huge fan of fanny packs when traveling. Maybe it doesn’t look the coolest but it is a very convenient way to access phone/wallet quickly.

If you are worried about security, Serpani and Pacsafe have a huge selection of backpacks and bags with various "locking" mechanisms. Locking is in quotes, as they don't actually lock, but they have extra security that would make it very difficult for someone to access your bag without you realizing it. My absolute favorite travel bag is this Serpani Sojourn. I'm not sure if they make it anymore, but this one looks similar https://sherpani.com/products/soleil-at-3. I love that it can been worn several different ways. I used mine all over Europe three years ago and felt very secure - even in areas frequented by pick pockets.

Thanks for this! Can the sojourn fit water bottles on the side?

Yes, it will fit a smaller one - like a 16 oz Dasani for example or a refillable of similar diameter. The large refillable bottle I use at the parks won't fit though. That has to go inside.
