I just found out I may be able to take a trip to Disney in August. We will probably have to drove to save on expenses. The airfare out of PIT is too high. Any info on how long it takes or where to stay on the way would be appreciated. I will probably try to get PAPs, which means I need to cut prices somewhere else. I'd love to hear any suggestions you have. There will be 5 of us(2A, 9yr old, 7yr old, and 2yr old). Thanks again.

I believe it would be appx. 17 hr drive since it is 24 from here and it takes appx. 7 to PA? You might want to check into Courtyard by Marriott DTD. They are offering a 20.03 rate thru mid sept. but you must ask for it specifically when calling.

If you are taking the I-75 route, and plan a stop near the middle, you should make Atlanta in about 9 hours, get through town, past the perimeter highway, I-285 and hotels drop dramatically. roughly 30.00 a night for nice establishments.

The drive from central Ohio is 18 hours and we do it every year. I drive to Kingsland GA the first day, approx. 12 hours, gas up and stay overnight. The gas is usually the cheapest the whole trip and the Super 8 is clean and cheap. There are also discount books at the gas stations that have great rates at the hotels along I-95. The drive the next day is about 3 hours to WDW. There is a Character outlet store in St. Augustine and we usually make a quick stop here for souvineers.

The Courtyard Mariott DTD is having their $20 a night special again this year and if we were going in August again we would stay here. I added one night here last August at this rate and it was a steal!

We decided against PAPs because we wouldn't use the premium services enough to make it worth our money. Instead we bought APs and paid for our water park visit.

I got roundtrip from Lehigh Valley Airport (Allentown) to Orlando, Sanford at $630 for our family of five. Airline was Southeast.

We are driving from Columbus in August. You say it is 18 hours, but then you say 12 hours one day 3 the next (which sounds really good to me!) which only adds up to 15. Can you clarify for me?

Also, are you taking 75 to 95 and stopping off 95? Just curious because I thought 75 went down almost to Orlando. I know that some people take 77 down to 95, is that what you are doing?

I'd love the $20 Marriott rate...

thanks for your help!!

I take I-70 to Cambridge where I pick up I-77. It's an easy drive and if I drove straight through without long stops it would take about 15 hours. Since I am the only driver and have two kids we stop alot. LOL. About every two hours we take a rest area break and stretch our legs. We have a picnic lunch at one the the rest areas and usually stop at a restaraunt for dinner. Driving time is only 12 hours but it really takes us about 15 hours when you count in the stops. I drove straight through in January and I won't do it again. It was too hard on me. 12 hours of drive time is my limit.

The second day the drive is 2-3 hours depending on traffic. We always seem to have huge traffic jams once we hit Florida. It's either construction or an accident. :(

Friends of mine just went to Orlando over spring break and drove I-77 to I-95 on the way down and I-75 home. They said they would never take I-75 again. It was over an hour longer and they said the drive was very boring through GA.

Hope that clarified my drive. :D
