We are planning a Disneyland trip in September. We are a family of 5: Me, DW, DS (8), DD (6), and DS (5). We went to Disneyland a few years ago. I want to make this trip super special for the wife because we are going for her birthday. She has had a tough year and is really looking forward to this trip. I want to get a VIP tour for one of our days there and surprise her with it. I know it is way expensive, but I know she will love it. I don't know what day we should do it. We will be there Wednesday - Saturday. Her birthday is on Thursday, so should I plan the VIP tour that day, or would it be better to surprise her the very first day - Wed? If we wait until Saturday, I am afraid the kids (and Dad and Mom) will be too tired to really get a lot out of the tour, but I know it will be more busy that day and we may get better perks having the tour on a day with larger crowds. Any info or insight you have for me would be great.

When in September are you going? If you're going after 9/12, then HalloweenTime will have started. My guess is that the Saturdays and Sundays will be fairly busy with guests coming to see HalloweenTime. The trade-off is that the parks will be running longer hours with evening entertainment. In September, they only do fireworks, Fantasmic!, Mad T Party, etc. on the weekends. Weekday hours tend to be shorter (10 am to 8 pm or so is pretty common).

If you're going to be there at the end of September, the first Mickey's Halloween Party is going to be on 9/26, which means DL will close to non-party guests at 6:00 pm. Party goers can enter DL with their MHP ticket starting at 3:00 pm, so the crowds will definitely pick-up at that point.

I would do it either Friday or Saturday. That way your guide can get you awesome seats for fantasmic and the fireworks
