I want to buy gift cards in advance for:

Our special dinning (we are doing all the chracter meals (there for a full week), lamplight, BB Fantasmic..)

Building 2 light Sabers and a droid

And spending $$ for the kids.

I won't be using gift cards for ILL's, our quick service meals, or snack to not deal with them in the app for mobile ordering.

Before I spend a big amount on gift cards I want to confirm some things:

You can tip using a gift card, correct? I've calculated the cost of all these including tax and 20% tips.

Can anyone give me the exact cost of light sabers right now including the tax? Same with droid?

Is there anything I should be aware of by pre buying these gift cards? All the places we plan to book dinning are Disney owned. I know the limit is $1000 per card. I know to register your card on the website in case the card is lost you can transfer to another.

Can I ask why you are using gift cards rather than a credit card that can earn cash back? Is it a Target Red Card thing?

You are able to tip with a GC, but it may be tricky to plan this far out on pricing. I would not be surprised if prices for food or experiences went up by at least a bit before October (I believe that is when you're going IIRC).

From my calculations for earlier this year, sales tax for Anaheim is 7.75%

Get separate gift cards for the items.

calculate the droids and lightsaber building and get a gift card for that.

droids are $99.99 plus tax, so $108-ish
lightsabers at Savis workshop is $219.99 plus tax so $238-ish

calculate Meals, tax, and tip and get a different gift card for that (maybe add 10% extra just in case)

We don't use credit cards and yes save 5% with target red debit card.

Not the OP, but I buy gift cards for the fuel savings. My grocery store offers $35 off fuel with every $250 in gift cards. I buy the gift cards with my credit card, so I get cash back plus the fuel savings.

I've had mixed success with this, but the servers that weren't able to figure it out were also the servers who couldn't figure anything else out either (if you know what I mean;))

Gotcha. Be careful with the Disney Gift Card website. It is easy to combine cards, and I definitely recommend you do that, but make sure you DELETE the cards from the website when you are done combining. Do not leave them on there, as they can be stolen.
Yes! Please delete. There was a huge breach a while back and many people had them stolen from that website.

We keep the card info in the notes on our phone. If we were to lose the card, we'd be able to use the info in the notes on our phone to go to the website and transfer the $ from the lost card to a different one.

Of course in our last trip, H just lost the cash he brought instead 🤦🏼‍♀️
