Help Me Understand My Use Year, please!

Our UY is February.

We just went in Feb. 2010 - we banked 9 points from this trip.

We're planning on going in March 2011, not using all our points and banking about 90 to be used in...

March of 2012.

Is this possible with a Feb. UY. Looks like I should have pushed for a different use year, but I'm not worried about cancelling and losing points - just about losing our banked points because we're not going before February each time.

Does this make sense to anyone?

If you will travel in Feb/March on a regular basis, then your Feb UY is perfect for you.

You want to be able to travel in the first 8 months so that if you have to cancel a trip, you have a lot of flexiblity of what you can do with the points.

Remember, your UY doesn't play a role in when you can book, so you can call in April 2010 to book that March 2011 trip. MS will look to see what points you will have available at the time of the trip.

So, for that trip, you can use banked Feb 2010 UY points, current Feb 2011 UY points, and borrowed points from Feb 2012 UY.

Since you banked 9 2010 points, they will use those first, then as many 2011 points thta you need. You would then be able to bank whatever 2011 points you don't need for travel in your 2012 UY.

Yes, I think you've got just about the perfect use year for March trips. When you book for March 2011, make sure they use your 9 banked points first. Then you'll bank 90 2011 points, which will come available with your regular 2012 points for trips taken from February 1, 2012 to January 31, 2013. You're set!

We have a December UY... that can be even more confusing... because 11 months are always in the next year. Or on the flip side, you have to wait 11 months for "That year's" points to come in.
You made a good choice & it will all make sense as you book more trips.
