For part of DH's Christmas gift, I want to use some software we already have on our comp (Windows MovieMaker) to create a video of our trip to WDW from this past summer.

Ok..I've got the music I want loaded into the project, as well as all the photos (over 100 in all). However, when I hit the playback button, the pictures are all grainy. :(

So how do I fix this?

First, let me say that I am no expert but have used this program quite a bit.

Grainy pictures might just show up that way on the little screen, but they will look good in another form of playback. See if you can View Full Screen instead of just watching the playback in that little window in the corner of the project page. If you can't, I would say go ahead and save it to DVD (which takes a LONG time) and play it back on the biggest-screen TV you can.
I've used this program to make the same thing- photo journal of sorts with music overlaid. It looks great once recorded onto the final format, but no so hot in the project window.
Good luck!
