We just found out she's pregnant and we've got a vacation booked in DW. She'll be about 7 months along when we're scheduled to leave. We've got reservations and have placed the deposit. Since this is our first and we're both over forty, we're considering delaying the trip until next year after the baby is born (in case the doctor confines her to bed). Does anyone know about if it's possible to reschedule reservations? What about cancelling?

Congratulations. Also, the vast majority of pregnancies at 40 go smoothly so it is probable you will face no problems.

Sounds like you are still several months away from scheduled trip. Not sure what you have booked--package that includes room, tickets and airfare? separate booking for each? If you have received a confirmation statement for anything booked, you should check the form you received for cancellation policy. Generally with Disney, you can cancel anywhere from 45 days to 7 days before arrival without penalty depending on what you booked (a package versus just room) and how you booked (using Disney Club, travel agency, or other). Generally a change in the time you will be going like you are contemplating means you would cancel the scheduled trip and rebook another. The one exception would be airfare. If that has been booked separate (not part of a package), it is likely to have a no-cancellation restriction (unless you paid the much higher prices charged for unrestricted travel). Generally what that means is that you cannot cancel the air tickets, but they will allow you to change them to a different time for an additional fee (ranging from $25 to $75 per ticket). That is also something you should check on the confirmation form or tickets or call the travel agent through whom you booked.

Talk to your doctor and call the resort where you are staying (explain the situation - I am sure they will try to help you) but I would say cancel. Your wife won't feel much like walking around at seven months and I know of a woman (41 years old) who went on a similar vacation to the one you have planned at seven months and came back and had the baby two days later. Both mother and baby were in hospital in critical care for some time. I don't mean to distress or upset you but even if you loose the deposit - cancel anyway. Just think of the wonderful time you will have taking your healthy wife and your new healthy baby to disney world! Those character breakfasts will be a blast! And, your wife will be able to do the baby swap and go on Splash mountain (my favourite!) and other thrill rides she would otherwise not be allowed on. Congratulation!

What a magical time for you both. Stay home! I am one of those ladies who experineced pregnancy problems. One that required a four month hospital stay for both me and baby. If a problem arises with a pregnancy and you are not at home, you are forced to use doctors and hospitals you are not familiar with. I was in a hotel having a wonderful time. I was nearly six months pregnant and my cervix dialated 5 full centimeters. Being away from home complicated matters significantly. I would never travel pregnant again. I know lots of couples have traveled with no problems. Your dear wife's age puts her at higher risk. Stay home, rub her back, enjoy the quiet, visit better restaurants, enjoy several full nights of rest because everything is about to change. And oh, what fun you are going to have taking your sweet baby to Disney the first time.

First congrats on the baby. I personally have been to WDW twice while pregnant. Although I must
admit the first time I was only 2 months and the second and most recent time I was 4 months along.
I know that with most things you can postpone without a problem. You could even go sooner rather than
later too, Have you considered that! From my own experience WDW while pegnant was just as much fun as
not being pregnant, it is amazing just how many things can still be done. First thing is you shlould both speak to
the doctor before making any decisons. Congratulations again.

Cancel and replan for after. Think of how much fun it will be to go with your new child! We are going in Sept and our youngest and (1st together) will be just 12 months. We started planning when she was just a couple of months old & tho' she won't remember any of it we will.

I would really suggest changing your trip dates... either up 3 or 4 months or back 6 months.. At 7 months you really can't predict what will be happening or how she will be feeling... I'm sure it will cost something to change the dates around, but you'll be much better off.... I know at 7 months I was confined to bed with our second child & at 8 months with our first... so I'd stay on the cautious side of things...

I am currently pregnant as well and have been to WDW twice during this pregnancy. I went at 14 weeks in March and at 24 weeks in May. March was lovely - I felt good, the weather was great, and I had gained about 10 lbs at that point. May was a little bit tougher on me as it was in the low 90's and I have gained about 20 lbs. The baby presses on the nerves in my lower back so we took it slower than usual.

I still had a great time on both trips and would go again pregnant without hesitation.

Check with your OB as well because mine prefers no flying after 6 months or so. If your doctor won't let your wife fly at 7 months, I would try moving the trip closer and try to get in one last vacation with just the two of you.

I would also advise traveling during the second trimester in the pregnancy as any morning sickness (if she suffers from it) will likely be gone by then.

Stay home. Anything could happen. Also, months pregnant can be extremely uncomfortable.

Every pregnancy is different, so definately check with your doctor. My DH and I went to Disney World last August when I was 7.5 months pregnant. I had a very easy pregnancy and we just took it at a very leisurely pace. We had a lot of pool time and enjoyed many air-conditioned, sit down restaurants. Of course, in August, it was very, very hot, so I kept drinking water constantly. If you are unsure, then replan the trip. Otherwise, go with dr.'s permission and enjoy a relaxing trip with just the two of you.

i would like to say that at almost 40 something last year i had my son. at 7 months pregnant i was tired all the time. i do not think i would have enjoyed disney at all.
if you can go at the 3-5 month stage you still feel great and can eat what you want no guilt! but i must add that we took my ds at 6 month he had a great time. what ever you decide talk to your ob first.

Congrats!

Am I reading it right that you are from California? That's an awfully long flight, especially since she should be drinking lots of water (dehydration can put you into early labor), and she will probably experience some swelling. I'd wait.

Hmmm. Well, having survived 2 pregnancies (in my 30s though) I'll tell you that if it was going to do a trip like this during my pregnancy, I'd do it late 2nd trimester/early 3rd trimester. 7 months would be fine for me. Tend to feel really good then. First 3-4 months can be kind of yucky. Last month can be kind of heavy.

If you trust your obi-gyn, I'd check there for advice. Those people see all kinds of pregnant women come through the door - should be able to give you the most statistically sound advice possible.

Well, I had my daughter at 34 weeks, completely unexpected until 3 days before, so I would definitely stay, stay home. I travelled to the USA (from the UK) at 3 months and that was fine, but I wouldn't suggest travelling at 7 months.

If you have a medical note from your doctor, then you should be able to get a refund on your 'non-refundable' flights - they usually have a clause for medical reasons, or if you have travel insurance you may be able to claim off that.

but stay home, and then take a lovely vacation when you baby is 4+ months and you'll have a great time.

Bev

I would definately say stay home, I traveled to Disney back in August while I was 51/2 months pregnat with twins. I know August isn't a great month to go even if you are not pregnant, but anyway. It was very hard on me, I ended up in alot of pain everyday and I even wore one of the pregnancy belts. I was only 27 at the time wich really doesn't mean a whole lot sometimes, but considering her age and this being the first child, she doesn't really know what to expect in her pregnancy, so every thing could be an emergency.

I think that you both would enjoy it more and feel more relaxed after the baby is born. I would absolutely NEVER go pregnant again, the walking was very difficult and I was tired all the time. I know everyone is different but IMHO I think you would feel better staying at homw.

It was my first ( and still only) PG. I can give you my 2 cents with my experience. We went when I was 8 weeks and I did most rides and had a blast. My dr. wasn't concerned being I was that early. It was late Sept. early Oct. and was HOT!!! that was the clincher. I was tired anyway and teh heat make be the biggest crab on the planet. I had a lousey time and ever wondered if I'd wnat to go back after that. Rude guests REALLY got to me and nothing seemed fun. But this next time, I'm hoping to be about 10 weeks by that time and we're going with my son now and he'll be a little over 2 1/2. Since we'll be going slow for him, and my mom will be with...I'm confident that I'll be able to rest often. That's the HUGEST key. But your wife's going to be 7 months then and that may be a different story. I was put on bed rest at 7 months.

I say, if you decide to go, take it EASY. Rest often. I'm not sure when in Oct. you're going but it can be hot and that will definately wear on her. Do what you feel and SHE feels you both can do.

Congrats!

Who is she???

Regardless of that, I doubt my wife would have wanted to walk around WDW at 7 months into pregnancy.

Do you have trip insurance?

I think I would reconsider...

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I would have to say to postpone your trip til after the baby is born. All the walking around would be very tiring for your wife. Whatever you decide,I wish you the best with the baby!! :p

Another vote to change your travel dates. My wife went into early labor with our first child at 7 months. She wound up with 6 weeks of bed rest.:earsboy:
