This upcoming trip was going to be a split trip between disney and universal. It is our last big trip before we have kids, and I have never been to universal, so I was excited. But, we have decided to skip universal since basically it would cost us an additional $500 (to stay at one of their hotels for FOTL and tickets - we are going at easter so FOTL was impt), or staying at disney where the hotel is like $100 and the tickets would cost us $1 for an extra day on DH's MYW and nothing for my AP. I am always glad to spend extra time at disney, but I now have no idea when I will ever get to universal. I can't imagine going there with small kids, so it might be 10 years+ before I get there, so I am a little bummed. We considered just driving over for the day, but even then admission is like $120 for both of us.
I need some cheering up....

The cheering up comes from the extra days at Disney. I have been to Universal several times. I'm not going to bash it, but it isn't Disney by a long shot. More like a glorified Six Flags. (IMO). You are having a wonderful Disney trip---I think that is the bright side!!!

Honestly, if you're willing to drive, the bonus pass they're offering online for $99 for 5 days or their equivalent of the park hopper annual pass is a really good deal and they have express passes for rides similar to the disney Fastpass system. I've gone on days when the park was very crowded and still had a great time, but I can understand the need to budget.

I always have a great time at Universal (we're annual pass holders and will continue renewing them in the future), but extra time at Disney is *never* a bad thing. US is a lot of fun, but IMHO, it's all about the thrill rides, the theming and the overall experience is not as immersive. It's a great time, but it doesn't compare to the level of customer service and wonder that you get at Disney, and honestly, unlike Disney, also IMHO, it's very easy to do UO/IOA in two or three days at most and not feel like you missed out on anything. Universal really is a very doable weekend trip and affordable, so you might be surprised at your ability to make it back there.
