I have the geek squad coming over today. I have tried and my husband has tried to burn some photos on cd and nothing nada. It keeps telling us that the cd has no room. I've gone as trying to burn just 75 pictures on the blank cd and it still says the same. My computer is also telling me that I have no hard drive space available. So the Geek is coming over to add hard drive and give me an hour of his brain usage. I really can't afford it right now but I don't want to lose my pictures. Help. Bye the way my DH has been telling me for months that I have too many pictures on the computer. I had it when hes right. helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllp

When you burn a set of files to CD or DVD, instead of just copying the files from their location on the hard drive to the CD/DVD, the computer makes a temporary image of the files, then uses that image to create the CD/DVD. The temporary image is stored on the hard drive until the burn is complete. If your hard drive is full, it's possible that there's no space to create the image, and that's why you can't save to CD.

I suggest you try to clear up as much unnecessary files and programs from your hard drive as you can. Clearing the recycle bin, temp folders, cache, etc probably won't get you huge amounts of space, but do it anyway. Once you've got that cleared up, you might want to defrag your harddrive.

Then, get an external or portable hard drive that you can simply plug in to your PC's USB port, then move the photos to the external hard drive. I said MOVE, not copy. If dragging them from the hard drive to the new external drive simply puts a copy on the external drive, you'll need to delete them from the the original hard drive, and delete them again from the recyle bin. That will free up space on your original hard drive, so you can back them up onto CD or DVD from the external drive. This is a little risky, but it seems like you're backed into a corner.

You say that the Geek Squad is coming over today, so you probably won't have time to do the above before they arrive.

Thanks GrillMouster the Geek just left. $ 329.00 later. I added 1GB of memory. I can now burn. I guess i'll be up late tonight. Yikes is all I have to say.

Glad you are now able to burn your photos:thumbsup2 Do know how to defragment your computer and check this from time to time (not needed frequently) but is housekeeping for your computer that frees up disk space from time to time. It's easy and I can explain if you are not aware of this.:thumbsup2 You should also empty your Temp. Internet box periodically (more often than Defrag.) If interested PM me and I will give you easy step by step instructions that will help you some for the future.

So was your problem not enough RAM or not enough hard drive space? Your problems sounded like it was a hard drive issues, but the solution he provided sounds like he added to your RAM.
