We are planning a July 2020 trip with our in laws we will need 2 rooms for our party for 8 nights at the Poly. We have a poly contract where i can book 2 studios for 5 days each -- our trip is going from July 2 - 10th, so at 11 months I can book July 2-7th.

We have an AK contract and plan on using those points at 7 months to book our remaining poly days -- July 7-10th. I feel this time of year is slow DVC and standard studios at Poly should be available. But if you were me would you book back up room at AK? or just wait for 7 months and hope poly is still open and if not book elsewhere.

I feel like i should just wait and take the roll of the dice and see what is open. Ugh the pressures of the Disney planner!

I think so long as you're okay ending up at Kidani, or at OKW/SSR, you're safe to wait.

I would book at AK and the just modify when you get to 7 months. That way you know you have a room, instead of taking a chance and not getting either.

IF you would switch to AK for the last days if you needed to, reserve the room.

If you are borrowing points to do so, then there may be some other considerations.

Always book at 11 and try to switch at 7, what are you losing?

You are probably safe to wait, but what is the benefit of doing so. Seems like you are merely risking an AK room with nothing to gain.

How does it hurt you to book backup at AK? You can always cancel them, or maybe modify them to Poly at the 7 month window. By booking now, you have a GUARANTEE of somewhere to stay, even if it is somehow no longer available at 7 months.

There's no cost and really no downside to having the AKV rooms booked as backups. I agree there probably won't be any problems getting Poly but might as well have the backup. Then you just modify the reservations online.
