I'm not sure if there is a character breakfast on the land/sea as I have only been on the 7 day. Before you pay for a character breakfast on land ( I am assuming that's what you are referring to) I would check to see if there is a character breakfast on your cruise. All the characters come around to your table and take pictures with each of the children. They love it.
As far as what to do in Nassau, first check the disneycruise.com website. You will find all the Disney sponsored excursions and the recommended ages and prices. If this is your first cruise, you should be able to book it right on line after final payment as early as 90 days before you sail. Also, be sure to book your children in the childrens programs, and any Palo or Spa appointments you desire.
Try "google"ing for shore excursions in Nassau, and you will also discover other things to do there. It has been my experience that Disney does extensive screaning with the third party vendors they offer through the cruise line. Knowing that, they are probably your safest bet if you don't know what you plan to do, but, they aren't your only bet!
Have fun! I hope to do the Western some day! I would like to see what Atlantis is like before booking a vacation there. Great way to check it out without having to totally "check in"....
