Help Me Plan My 40th Budget Princess Party

I am turning 40 next week and want my family (there will be about 12 of us) to help me celebrate "princess style". Any suggestions that are seriously not too babyish? I guess I will need a princess cake and some princess decorations, plates etc...

Can you think of anything unusual or really neat for us to eat? Favors I can give out? I want to keep it within a reasonable budget. Please get creative! Thanks!

From one princess to another....here are my suggestions: for favors, get the fun plastic 'silver' colored tiaras from the card and party stores, have glitter on the tables, have tulle hanging from the ceilings, go for pink and silver plates and forks (plastic kinds); get a princess cake (I just had one with Cinderella and her castle on it) ...... buy the translucent 'glass' oops plastic slippers in the wedding section, and fill them with treats at the tables.....and send me pictures! I'd love to see this! Have fun and Happy Birthday Early!

For my DD5 Birthday, we did a princess tea party at our local ice cream shop. But the tea party faire, small sandwiches, fruit, tea, worked well with the princess theme. For party favors, I bought plastic (glass looking) slippers from the wedding dept. at our local Party City (I think walmart has them too). I filled them with candy, and wrapped them in tulle, tied them with ribbon. They looked like Cinderella's slipper. Everyone loved them, and my DD's display their "glass slippers" in their rooms. I suppose this would work for adults too. You might check out Disney's family fun cakes, I think they have a cool looking castle cake that is not too hard to make. You might also read through the countless princess party descriptions at www.birthdayexpress.com . Most of these are children's parties, but you might find some stuff you can use for an adult party. Have fun!

I did a princess party for DD4 in August. I made a cupcake tower for the cake and used 2 glass pedestal cake plates stacked one on top of the other. I bought Wilton Princess Cupcake Papers from Michael's and iced the cupcakes and then sprinkled blue edible cake sprinkles on them. I also used the Wilton Cinderella cake toppers. To finish it off I used silver, white and blue curling ribbon that hung down the sides of the cake plates. It really looked nice. I also bought the "glass" slippers and filled them with candy as favors. I found them at the Dollar Tree. I used light blue bags made out of netting material (found in the wedding section at Michael's) to put around the glass slippers. For the invite I used some WDW castle printer paper and printed the details on that sheet then I put a piece of light blue vellum paper over the top and punched two holes at the top and tied a ribbon through it. They looked very nice.

I remember the princess/castle cake in the Family Fun magazine. How darling!
They have the little plastic princess slippers filled with candy at Wal Mart right now in the Valentine's section. I think they're about $4, so maybe that would work out for your budget. I bought a cute "princess-type" carriage at a local dollar store for $1, with hopes of using it for a princess-themed night at Disney. You can really find lots of things for a dollar, especially if you have access to the dollar stores. My local Fred's had tiaras covered in feather boas for 75 cents not too long ago, and I bought a few of these too.

If you can get a copy of Parent's magazine for February, there is a picture of a really cute "Princess Wreath". This might be something you could either hang on the door to greet your guests, or could possibly be used as a centerpiece on your table.

DD went to a Princess party where each girl's chair had a pink fabric cover like a slip cover. The back had the outline of a Tiara or grown in gold or silver glue glitter and then her name. It was a nice way to do seat assignments and the girls got to take them home.

Great idea for a 40 y/o! I will remember that!!

We did similar things for DD's birthday but something else you could do for a 40th -- have everyone bring their own baby-picture OR as a young child, especially the females if / when they were pictured in princess type clothes. (Isn't everyone dressed as a princess at some time or other? )

While it's definitely more fun with friends who wouldn't automatically recognize the pictures, it is still a fun addition to any gathering.

For the tea sandwiches...you could use big cookie cutters to cut them into shapes (shaped sandwiches are even more fun to eat ).

Don't know who all is coming (males and females) but you could get pampered "princess style". You could do manicures/pedicures, maybe hair and makeup? You could either do these at home by yourselves (budget) or go out wearing your princess tiaras and get manicures at the salon. Or maybe you know a manicurist and she could come to your house???

Then you could all get dressed up to the nines and sit around sipping your tea and eating finger sandwiches!

Just came back from the party store with a TON of princess paper goods and treats

I found the little glass I mean plastic slippers and now I need to know what to fill them with. They are only about 3 inches long with the opening. Any clever ideas on what kind of candy/treats to fill them with? I also bought tulle to wrap them in. This is so much fun!!

Please keep the ideas coming they have been so awesome and I wish you all were coming to my party!!

Sounds like you're really having fun with this! I got carried away this summer when I was planning our "cheesy 'Ohana-like luau", but I had soooo much fun doing it! I think the planning and shopping are half the fun!

I'm wondering if candy bracelets or necklaces would fit into the shoes. I haven't seen the empty slippers for filling. I'm going to have to look for these---they sound so cute!

If you have a male friend or husband he could come riding up on a pony {the stick kind of course ) with a feather in his hat to sweep you off your feet. Just as a stage show type of thing

I had a princess party for my DD for her last birthday. We started by personally delivering invitations directly to their homes. They were written very formal - Making an announcement that the Princess Morgan formally requested their presence at the Gala Feast at the castle - we made these look like a scroll with ribbon. I asked every prince and princess to dress accordingly and I announced them as they arrived. I had them enter through a gazebo type opening all dressed in flowers (plastic) and tulle. I had champagne glasses (plastic) with lace on them. I made crowns. (very easy) take pipe cleaners to make the size of your head, put tulle down the back and in the front put small fabric flowers on them. The kids loved these. For the boys I sprayed Burger King crowns gold. I also made wands from a wooden heart and stick that I got at Michaels. I glued them together and sprayed them. If you are going to have young ones at your party too it is fun to play games. We played The prince and the Pea. I read the story and then I had the children sit on a heart pillow to see if they were truly a prince/ princess. I made a feast fit for a king. They loved it. I also had the glass slippers. Can't think of anything else right now. I hope you have a great birthday.

OK for food so far I thought of...

1) Cut out tea sandwiches with cream cheese and strawberry jam mixed together to make them pink
2) Chocolate Fondue with different dippers (marshmallows, fruit etc.)
3) Ambrosia
4) Bakery prepared princess cake
4) Lots of hot tea

What else would be "girlie" food I can serve? I need more food ideas.
