Hey there and hello!! I'm going on a weekend trip to NY in December (the 13th thru the 15th to be exact) and I would like to have your input on what to see and do. Any suggestions on where to stay and places to eat would be welcome, also. This is my first trip to NY and probably the only one for awhile, so I would like to do all the touristy things, and of course, I HAVE to visit TDS, he he!! :D Is it too late to get tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway, and if so, what other Broadway shows would you suggest seeing?

Oh, yah, this would be my first plane flight, too, so please send me PD...I'm a little nervous bout the whole thing, I'm flying by myself and I don't quite know what to expect.:( I'll be flying into NJ and quite possibly staying there and commuting into NY if the price is better, right now I have a quoted $80 a night at the Hilton in NJ...do you think I could get a compriable price at a hotel in NY?

Ack, ok, I really need some help!! Please respond and thanks in advance!!:teeth:

Hi! I can't really help you with your planning (I've never been there). Just wanted to "bump" you up to the first page so maybe somebody can help you out. Have a great trip!

must-sees: the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Rockefeller Center (the tree will be lit by then).

you won't be able to get tix for Lion King unless you go through a broker and pay a fortune. I'd recommend 42nd street, Oklahoma, Hairspray (another hot ticket), Les Miserables, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Phanotm of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast or Aida.

nice theme restaurants include Jeckyl & Hyde, Planet Hollywood, Mars 2112.

try nytoday.com or nyctourist.com for suggestions as well.

If you want to go to a show on the same day, try the TKTS booth on Broadway and...I wanna say 47th Street...they have seats for 1/2 price for that day's shows. There's no telling what show you'll see, though, so you have to approach with a spirit of adventure. :)

Try this link if you want to see Beauty and the Beast. You can get tickets for $60 each (instead of the usual $95), if you use code JAOL. I see 12/13 and 15 are listed, so you might want to give it a shot, but I'd bet you might get some from TKTS for less:

Good luck, and enjoy your trip! :)

80 bucks for a hotel in Jersey is a steal!! there is no way you are going to get a hotel in Manhattan for 80 bucks a night. Yes the Empire State Bldg. , the Statue of Liberty, a are a must see. The Radio City Christmas Show is a must for any tourist!!!! If you like a horse drawn cab ride Around the Central Park area pricey... but again lots of people do it. Can be found on Central park south and 5th avunue right near the Plaza Hotel.
We have taken the New York Waterway ferry service from Hobeken, New Jersey. and it is great. For 25 bucks RT. Plus a 10 bucks to park your car. You get to park your car,, take a nice 15 minute ferry trip over the Hudson with a geat view of of the New York Skyline. Then the best part, they have busses that will drop you off at various place in Midtown Manhattan right in the middle of the theatre district area. and then take you back to the ferry and then back to the dock in Hoboken. We just saw OKlahoma and it was very good. The Lion King will be very hard to get.. but Beauty and the Beast may be possible. Now right in Times Square, there is a place Called Duffy Square at 45th and Boardway . The place is called TCKTS. They sell tickets at a 40-50 % discount to plays. It is a crap shoot though. But all the major shows may be available. If you decide to go to a evening performance they will go on sale in the late afternnon. and for a matinee early in the day. I was able to score tickets a number of times. It works if you are flexible with your choices. You can try TICKETMASTER .com to see if you can get lucky for the Lion King.
I do not know where you are staying in Jersey. If you are staying in the Fort Lee Hilton you are very lucky. because you are only a mile from the George Washington Bridge , then cross the bridge into Manhattanand you can drive right down the West Side highway into midtown Manhattan exit at 56th street and go across 5 avenues then you will be right in the middle of midtown. and be only a 20 minute drive to Midtwon Manhattan. If you drive to into Manhattan there is a parking garage on the 52nd street between 7th avenue and boardway which will put you right in the middle of the thetare district and then you can walk right over to Radio City and Rockefeller Center to see the tree. You can see the the Radio City marquee over a block away from in fron the parking garage !!! You can look up resturants for cuisine types, ratings, prices , and locations on Zagats. com . This can help to plan your itineary.
ihope this helps.

Thanks for the tips, guys!! :( Yah, I thought it might be too late to see The Lion King, oh well, just a reason to go again!!:teeth:
I can't wait to go!! 13 days and counting! Woo hoo!!

The Roxy Deli in Time Square is a favorite of mine for when I would rather get something and take it back to my room to and reat for the night. One sandwich can feed a family of four...NO kidding. Dont forget the Disney store on %th. Its the best IMPO. Have a wonderful time and take all of your warmest clothes:D

Hi all!! I just wanted to let you all know that I had a BLAST in NY!!! Thanks for all your tips, there was so much to see and do and I didn't get to do all I wanted to, but, hey, that's what next time is for!! We did go to Madame Tussauds wax museum, WOW, that was cool!! Got lots of pics, um, lets see, it rained while we were there and it was foggy, so we didn't go see Lady Liberty, I saw her from the plane on the way home, tho!! Oh, yeah, and we went to the Empire State Building, but didn't go up due to the fog and there was zero visibility...oh, yes!...we did go to Rockefeller Center and see the Christmas tree...that was so beautiful!! And of course, I paid homage to the huge Disney Store on, was it 55th? This was my first trip to NY and although I didn't get to do and see everything I wanted to, I still had a wonderful time...it was a perfect time to go...I loved looking at all the buildings and people...it was an experience that I will never forget!
