I am fairly new to DIS B...absolutely new to the DVC thing. (Not an owner...just an admirer) Because we are avid campers, the DVC was not as appealing to our family's budget, although I really think it's a wonderful purchase for any other travel...

ANYWAY, here is my request....

I am looking for a way to afford a quick get-away from MI to WDW. Obviously, towing a camper 1200miles for a 2-3 day trip won't work, so I started looking at the DVC rental threads. :confused3

How (as a non-member) do I know how points work? And how much they're worth for each location? If I wanted to find - oh, let's say - a 2 night stay in May at a particular resort, how do I go about looking for rentals?

Help!:lovestruc

:) As a non member you would seek out a member on the rent/trade thread. They will have a listing of the amount of points they are trying to off load and the price. You can then PM them to express your interest and go from there. THere are several threads about a ways for having a contract for this.

You can also rent a reservation from someone who is having to cancel.

The member makes all the arragements for you and you have a lovely vacation.

To find point allocation for specific rooms, resorts and seasons there is a link at the top of this page for DVC points so you can pick out how many nights you will need, where, and how much they would cost.

Good Luck!!

You may also want to be a little flexible in your dates and locations. Also be aware that making reservations with DVC are different than making reservations for a hotel. Many DVC members expect payment up front, and no refunds if you cancel. Managing DVC Points are much different than making a general reservation at a hotel, and an owner will loose much if reservations are cancelled.

I tend to get wordy, and i'm sure there is someone here that can explain better.
I hope all works out and you have an excellent anniversary !

Thanks for your help. I'll certainly check the points calculator. I'm a bit nervous about venturing into DVC rental territory, so we'll see...

Make sure to get anniversary buttons, and have fun with it.

Dh and I had an especially great time at WDW on my 40th birthday. Many castmembers wished me a happy birthday, and sent out cupcakes with our meals throughout our stay.

You may also want to go in the American Adventure with your anniversary button on...I'm just saying. ;)

You can also go to ...to the point calculator to determine the number of points needed for your stay.

OK, did that...

Checked out two places for the two nights I'd like to stay:

1. AKL Villas-Savannah = 30 points
2. WL Villas = 28 points

So, if I find someone offering 30 points, is this all I'd need to reserve? There aren't any extra points needed for something else is there? Does the person I purchase from make the reservation? (A little scared about the process...but still worth doing if it means making the trip more affordable.)
