For fall break, we would like to attend a Broadway show. We have never traveled in that direction, so I need a lot of help! We would like to be within walking distance to the Broadway shows.

- Which airport should we fly into?

- What hotels do you recommend?

- Is a taxi the best way to get from the airport to the hotel?

- How difficult (and far) would it be to get to Times Square? Statue of Liberty?

- What other areas/attractions would you recommend?

It will be myself, DH, & DD11. Thanks!

Fly into La Guardia. It is cheaper to take a taxi from there than JFK. There are also plenty of shuttles you can take from the airport to your hotel.

If you want to be within walking distance to the shows, you need to stay in the Times Square area. I live here, so I don't know particular hotels, but look in the region of 34th St - 55th St (North and South) and 6th Ave to 9th Ave (East and West).

If you stay in that area, then you would basically be in Times Square so it would be very easy to get there. The Statue of Liberty is far from there, you leave from Battery Park at the very south tip of the island. You would have to take a taxi or the subway.

Rockefeller Center is definitely a good area to visit (50th and 5th). Empire State Building is 34th and 5th. I always recommend walking the Brooklyn Bridge. As for other areas or attractions, it really depends on what your interests are. There are tons of museums to see, the park, 5th Ave, etc.

I am going in three weeks with two friends. It is a girls only trip to celebrate all of us turning 40 this year. We are only there from Thur - Sun (early flight on Sun) so I am not sure how much we will get accomplished. Two of the three of us have never been and the one that has was only there for a weekend trip. I am not sure of our hotel but we are flying into JFK because we live in New Orleans and Jet Blue has a direct flight to JFK. We have booked Lion King, Jersey Boys and Rock of Ages. We will see one show each night we are there. I also just received the following list from one of my friends. Someone in her office reccommended the following.

Caroline’s Comedy Club – 1626 Broadway – Standup Live Comedy – truly GREAT!

Rockefeller Center

Toys-R-Us in Times Square – Walk through it…..there is a Ferris wheel inside.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral – go inside, it’s breathtakingly beautiful.

Grand Central Station

Fifth Avenue – Trump Towers, FAO Swartz, etc. (all the big name stores are there, CHANEL, PRADA, etc.)

Central Park (Park Avenue runs into it)

Statue of Liberty – Do the audio tour – it’s a must.

Battery Park –

World Trade Center Site (not far from Battery Park)

Empire State Building – Do the audio tour there too, go in the day time only because you won’t see anything at nighttime.

Brooklyn Bridge – Walk on it, there is a walking path

Wall Street – Take your picture with the bull

Ferrara’s – Little Italy

If you have time to get to China Town and Little Italy you will love that experience too. Eat a cannoli when you are there, they are the best!

LGA is cheper cabfare wise to NYC, but look at flight prices.

I always stay at the Marriott Marquis-heart of the Theatre district in Times Sq. If that doesn't work for you, stay within 6th-8th between 43rd and 49th.

Don't pre-buy tickets to more than 1 show. In Times Square is the TKTS booth-you can get half price tickets to many shows there, day of performance. http://www.tdf.org/TDF_ServicePage.aspx?id=56

About 2 mths before the trip, check www.broadwaybox.com for discount s in advance. Not as big a discount as TKTS- but you know what shoe and seats in advance.

Have fun!
