Hi everyone, we are heading to WDW 2/23-3/2. My youngest son will turn 5 on 2/25 while we are away. He, as well as the rest of our family, has had a very hard past few months with his diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes. It has been a very stressful time for older 7 year son as well. My husband and I know our family needs some healing time so we planned this really amazing vacation which includes staying at the Wilderness Lodge....anyway can you give me some ideas to plan a really magical birthday for my son and the whole family? I just KNOW you all will have the BEST ideas! Thanks in advance!:drive: pixiedust:

First of all congrats on making it htrough such a tough time and I really hope you have an amazing vacation! :goodvibes A couple of things come to mind....

1. make sure when you check in, the front desk knows you will be celebrating your DS birthday.

2. definitely get him a birthday pin at the parks

3. he is old enough to go on one of the pirate cruises, actually you could send both of your DS's it is an extra charge (about 35 dollars per child) it is TONS of fun and your kids are the perfect ages.

4. Try to be at Toontown at rope drop and he "might" get to ride the barnstormer with Goofy. (not sure if they still do this though because Goofy isn't at the judge's tent anymore)

5. let him pin trade, my boys who are now 7 & 8 LOVE this.

6. At the WL when you check in you can also ask about being the flag family which means you get to go on the roof of the lodge and help the flags that fly up there.

I know there are many more things but that is all I can think of right now...

What a huge thing for you guys to go through! The trip should help!

I agree don't forget to get the birthday button, he will get "Happy Birthdays"
all day.

You can tell the resturants where you are eating and they will bring out a special something and sing. I am not sure if he has a special diet, sorry. If he does mention it to the waitress/waiter and they could probably do something else. Disney is so good about stuff.

you could buy a gift and leave it on his pillow from one of his favorite characters. When we were there Tinkerbell left Halloween stuff in our rooms. I just "left" sweater and had to go back and get it. The kids thought it was so cool.
I hope you guys have a wonderful time.

The pirate cruises last for 2 hours. I would call ASAP though because they do book up. You would call the same line as dining to reserve one of the cruises. There are 4 different ones, one from the Grand Floridian, one from the Yacht Club, one from Port Orleans Riverside and one from Caribbean Beach Resort. The kids go from 9 or 9:30 to 11or 11:30. When you drop them off, you will be given a beeper too.:)
