We just decided to do a long President's Day weekend trip (Feb 16-21) and I need all the help I can get. I usually spend a year planning a Disney trip so this feels nuts to me! Any and all advice welcome.

We are me, DH, DD12 and DS9. We have 4 1/2 days total. Staying at the Hyatt House -we always stay on property, but decided to make this a cheaper trip.

We were at WDW in March 2021 and did Star Wars Land for the first time. Priorities this trip are Avengers Campus and Star Wars Land as that's what DH and kids too are really into :)

I'm thinking 3 Disney days with park hoppers, and 1 day at Universal. We've never done Universal and the kids are both recently into Harry Potter so I think it's time!

Our kids are usually early risers so we'll rope drop most every day, then we often need a hotel break after lunch, then back for a while.

We are thinking we'll also do a half day exploring Hollywood/etc. but not sure what yet.

Which days should we do each place? How much time do we need in each area? Are there any special things available to book? Dining recommendations? We usually make lunch ADR's for a nice sit down meal and then wing it for dinner.

Thanks so much in advance!

Good luck finding ADRs... I'm going 2/20-25 and they have been hard to come by from the time you could make them.

I would definitely do Disneyland on the weekdays. Rope drop will help alot.

We stayed at Hyatt House and liked it alot. Very clean, good breakfast and the pool area was nice. It took us 15-20 minutes to walk it depending on how tired the kids were. There is an ART shuttle stop right next to it but it was pretty inconsistent as far as when it would actually show up.

If your kids are into Star Wars I bet they would like making either a droid at droid depot, or a light saber at Savi's.
Savi's is $200 and I think Droid Depot is $99. You would need reservations for both of those. Oga's is a restaurant in Galaxy's edge that would be worth getting reservations for.

As far as ADRs, Carnation Cafe is right on main street and they serve breakfast and lunch. Blue Bayou, Cafe Orleans and Oga's at Disneyland.
For DCA, Lamplight Lounge.

Take a look at the menus to get an idea of what places you might like.

Have fun ! :)

I'd do two days of Disney, one day Universal and then the last day Disney. The reason is because Universal has shorter hours so you'd actually get to return early on the third day to get extra rest.

But if you want to spend half a day exploring Hollywood or something in LA, then it's a different story because I'd recommend a hotel swap. Then you can put your Unviersal day next to your Hollywood day and then switch hotels to do three days at Disney.

That’s super helpful, thank you! Off to map each location and figure out whether we might want to switch hotels.

Universal with their paid Fastlane passes is super easy to knock out in a day, maybe even a half day with the pass. They have two options. One pass allows for a single Fastlane ride for each ride and show. The unlimited Fastlane is just that, unlimited rides. If you buy the single ride version, hit rope drop and use them later in the day and you will still be fine. For most of the Universal rides, going through a couple times in a row is enough. We made the mistake of planning two and a half days there recently, mostly due to Halloween Horror nights. Ended up cancelling one full day after spending the half day there and then splitting the next between Universal and the LA Zoo. If your family is interested, the LA Zoo is super close and very nice.

I wonder if we could do Universal by 3 pm or so, then Hollywood for the evening?
