I am looking to plan a dream vacation for DH & I - a little background on us - DH will be 40 in Sept, I will be 35 in Sept and in Feb will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary. So, it is kind of a big year for us. We both want Disney, but won't be able to make it this year. DH was diagnosed with Stage 3 testicular cancer in Aug of 08 and as a result has inoperable blood clots and kidney failure from the chemo. We went to Disney last May and it was not a good situation - he had an ECV the entire time, but has no strength or endurance (even going at a slow pace).

Due to DH's blood clots, we can't travel in a car for long distance or fly anywhere, so we have to take Amtrak (which we have fallen in love with). We are in Chicago, which is a hub for Amtrak. We are looking at going somewhere towards the end of Sept. to celebrate our bdays and such. I would love a beach somewhere to just sit and relax - the only kicker is that it has to be close to an Amtrak route. I was thinking of FL, GA, SC, but I didn't know if the weather would be too cold for that time of year. Any suggestions is appreciated. Money isn't really an issue - just looking for a resort to sit, relax, read, and chill. I appreciate any help you can offer....

Wouldn't train travel be the same as Car travel?:confused3
Its still very warm in Destin Fla area at end of Sept

Have you considered a cruise? That is relaxing. Wishing all the best to both of you.

I am guessing the difference it the ability to walk around while the train is moving, unlike in an airplane where all you can do it shuffle from your seat to the restroom and back.

We get a family bedroom or bedroom on the train and he is able to have his legs elevated during the trip - he walks around the lower level of the train once an hour and we are able to get off at various stations along the route.

Great idea on the cruise - we are actually going to take the Empire Builder train from Chicago to Seattle in July and then we are taking an Alaskan cruise with my Dad and brother - it will be our 3rd Alaskan cruise, so we won't feel bad chillaxin on board!!!

Keep the ideas coming - I really appreciate it!
