We are leaving Thursday and I've got the suitcases mostly packed. I want to start working on the carry ons now but I am at a loss. I haven't flowin in 3 years so I can't remember what I put in there. Seriously, after 4 kids a brain cell dies every day. So in mine so far I've got a magazine in there....ya, that's it....my brain is not working today!! It's very sad. Please, give me some suggestions so I can stop wasting time and get us packed!

I never check a suitcase, always do carry on and a medium sized purse. In my purse, other than wallet, etc, goes a book, gum or mints, my camera, meds, tickets and passports, pen, notebook (with all travel details, adrs etc). If I were checking my bag, I would include a change of clothes and toiletries. Because we travel with our young kids, I take a couple snacks, a book or small game, a binkie or favorite stuffed animal, and we buy juice once we're through security to take onboard with us.
Have a great trip !

Our flight is about 2 hours and it is the first time our DD's have flown. DD#1 is scared of everything and says she won't get on the plane if it will be going fast. So I am taking our portable DVD player as well as our video Ipod which has some cartoons on it she likes hoping that one of them will distract her if she starts to freak out. I'm also taking a few snacks, some small quiet toys like maybe a coloring book or something, a change of clothes for each of us and our swim suits, cell phones, camera, chargers for cell, camera, DVD, and Ipod, DVD's, sun screen, night light.

Basically I'm taking what we need for the flight and our first day/night just incase we want to hit a park or go swimming before our luggage arrives at our hotel or goes missing.

Here's my checklist for the carry-on. There may be stuff that doesn't pertain to you, but at least it's a start. I know what you mean about losing those brain cells. :rolleyes1 Hope this helps!

Airplane Carry-ons

Pool bag
Children’s Motrin
Wet wipes
Snacks
Drinks
Kids Blankets
Magnetic Drawing boards
Travel games
New small toys
Kleenex
Plane tickets (make copies)
Hotel confirmation
Cash/credit cards
Dollar bills for tips
Travelers checks
Drivers license/IDs
Health insurance card
DVC Card
AAA Card
Disney Rewards Card
Theme park tickets (make copies)
Notepad
Pens
Cameras
Camera charger, data cable
Cell phone chargers
Ipods
Pennies for pressing
Books/magazines
Address List
Mousekeeping Envelopes
Toothbrushes
Toothpaste

Airport 3-1-1 Bag

Contacts/glasses
Contact lens solution
Sunscreen
Antibacterial hand gel
Stain stick

I would add to the PPs list (or as much as suits your family's needs):

1 change of clothing per person
2 sets of underwear per person (don't forget socks!)
1 swimsuit per person
1 set of pj's per person
Your almost empty purse
Medications, eyeglasses, sunglasses, extra contact lenses, etc.
Electronics and chargers (only if they don't have to be inspected separately by TSA--those go in your tote bag!)
Toothbrushes, hairbrushes, combs, razor for DH, etc.

I would do one shared carry-on with those items, plus any other basics you deem essential for 24 hours if your luggage should go astray. It probably won't, but just in case! If your children are small enough, you might be able to bag each child's clothing to make your life easier--or use the compression bags. Edited to add: You want to pack this bag so you don't need to open it going through security. If you need to use two bags, go for it. I'm just trying to minimize the number of bags you'll have to keep track of! :)

In a small backpack, duffel or totebag (to fit under seat):
Contents of your purse (if you carry a purse rather than backpack)
Tickets, ID, Itinerary (be sure to put a copy in every bag--including checked ones!), confirmations, travelers cheques, credit card, money, etc.
3-1-1 bag for everyone (toothpaste, lotion, sunscreen, shaving cream, antibacterial gel)
Magazine, book, etc.
Camera (easy access) and/or electronics that have to be screened by TSA.
Tissues--little things you may need during the flight.
Some snacks, depending on length of flight.

For each child--who is responsible for his/her belongings--a small wheeled bag or backpack (to fit under seat):

A couple of small favourite toys or items that can't be left at home.
Colouring books, paper, crayons, pencils--whatever will keep them busy during the flight.

You didn't specify ages, but if you have an infant...

You probably already have that covered! :)

remember you cannot check alkaline batteries!!! so any cell phone or camera/video camera batteries must be carried on.
Also anything of value, such as your camera's , they always recommend you carry them
paperwork for ressies, I've got toys for the kids in mine, earphones if you are flying jet blue
