Help me not overpack

I haven't been on a trip in almost 3 years.

We're leaving in 3 weeks. We are coming from Hawaii so we're not cold weather people

We have one day DTD, 5 days DRL, one Lego and one zoo. Then home.

We can, and most likely will, do one load of laundry before leaving Anaheim for San diego.

If you were me, how many pairs of clothes would you pack?

I was thinking 2 jeans, 5 shorts, 6 tops, jacket, underwear, socks....

But I'm not sure if I'm over or under packing!

I'd pack at least one more pair of jeans/pants. Tops you're probably fine on, as you can easily purchase some in any of the parks/zoo if need be. I'd pack underwear and socks for each day, plus one or two extra for emergencies/wet situations.

thanks! That's super helpful. There are so many awesome people here who pack WAAAY more than I do so I figure I'd ask the experts how much I really need :)

I took 2 pants 4 bottoms for 6 days total 4 in park. It was cool 1st day & wore pants. So didn't use one shorts. I think you have too many shorts.

Coming from Hawaii, you definitely have too many shorts! 80 degrees here in April is not 80 degrees anytime in Hawaii! It only feels like 80 degrees in the highest heat of the day. Mornings (money time @ the parks) and evenings are cool.

We are from Canada and we only wore shorts during the day there - at night we always returned to pants so I think you might not wear shorts at all.

It really does cool off at night once the sun goes down.

I'd bring a couple pair of shorts if I were you though as it can get hot.

Another Canadian and I am always always cold. I packed 3 pairs of denim capris and they were perfect wore each twice..in my day bag in I threw in a skort for the heat of the day. My teenage son was the only one that wore shorts day in and day out .

That is a lot more than I would bring. I would bring 2 pairs of black yoga pants and 2 pairs of shorts in neutral colors. 5 shirts and a sweatshirt. But most importantly, I would bring two pairs of shoes for walking. (Which will take up a lot of room). It might be different if you had kids who tend to mess up their clothes but bottoms can be worn multiple times before washing, Plus, what are the chances that you do not shop?

I don't have helpful weather/packing input, I just wanted to admit out loud that after reading this post, I've realized I am VERY obviously a ginormo over packer.. :rotfl2::eek:

I think that you should bring:
  • 3 pairs of shorts
  • 2 pairs of jeans + wear 1 pair of jeans or pants on the plane
  • 5 tops + the 1 you'll wear on the plane
  • 5 pr underwear & socks
  • jacket
  • an umbrella
  • a scarf - or in your case, bring a sarong because you might have some of those from the ABC Stores or Hilo Hattie's and you can use the sarong as a scarf to keep your neck warm.
Plan on doing laundry about half way through your trip. It's not a big deal and most hotels have a laundry facility that you can use. The 10-day extended forecast on weather.com for Anaheim is showing highs in the high 60's to low 70's with lows dipping into the 40s. If you were arriving from Canada, then this would probably be shorts weather for you. But you're from Hawaii and you're used to tropical climates, so you will probably feel pretty chilly and might not want to wear your shorts at all.

So by bringing 2 pairs of jeans + the pants/jeans you'll wear on the plane, what this allows you to do is do some laundry every 2-3 days. You can extend that if you wear a pair of jeans twice before washing them.

Thanks everyone! I'm actually hoping it's cool enough to be able to stay in jeans! It's a pain to change back and forth! (Out last trip was early june so pretty cool in the early morning but warm during the day)and yes! 2 kids who tend to get pretty dirty :)

Just a little packing hint...I always pack everyone's socks and underwear in their own individual jumbo ziplock bag, write their name on it with a sharpie, and squish all the air out. Takes so much less room in the suitcase! And then I don't have to sort out socks on the trip, everyone knows where there things are.

Looks like it may be colder than I expected. If that's the case, I can go with less shorts.

Why so many pairs of shorts? If you're trying to keep your luggage down then I would plan to do laundry midway through your trip and bring enough clothes for half the trip plus one extra day incase you slack off.

Well 5 shorts would take us halfway through the trip, if we wear them each day. In June we wore jeans in the morning and changed into shorts each day.

I would do capris/floods. They work well for both warmer and cooler weather. In the mornings/evenings, just put on a hoodie or sweatshirt and you'll be warm enough. :)
