Help me make up my mind, DDP or not.

We never get the regular DDP. If we get one at all it is the deluxe shared across rooms. I am stuck on whether to get the regular ddp for our upcoming trip and I can not make up my mind! We are 6 adults staying in a 2 bedroom villa at BC. We will have a quick breakfast in the room but will not be having any other meals there. The DDP will cost us $320 more than I am sure we will spend. I know that sounds like a no brainer, but for 6 adults covering 7 days it's about $7 per person per day. But it is still $320. In my oop calculations I figured $15 per cs meal,If I allow my group to order alcohol at cs,( I am Mom, footing the bill),that will be around $125 so we are at a deficit of around $200 then. For the $200, I would scrap a cs at HS for 50's PT which works well for our plans. For those who do both oop and ddp sometimes please help me decide. I don't want to waste money but that is not a significant concern. Do you feel better having or not having the ddp?

At $7 per day per person, look at whether or not you will order any snacks. If so, I would get the plan. If not, did you factor in tax for your OOP costs? I imagine the gratuities will remain the same since you have looked at alcohol at CS, you will have included it at TS.

I also look at the refillable mug if I am on the fence. We use ours a lot. Will you? If so, that could keep beverage costs down.

Did you figure snacks into your OOP calculations? If not, then I would go with DDP. If so, then I'd do OOP because it looks like you could do one extra TS for the same amount of money, and that would be worth it to me. I also think you'll end up spending less than you've calculated once you're there.

If you've factored in the costs of what you're likely to eat, including tax, and you're coming up at a difference of $7 per day before snacks and alcohol AND you plan on at least $7 per day worth of snacks and alcohol then I'd say go for it. In other words, if you're not dramatically altering your plans in order to at least break even then it sounds like it makes sense to add the dining plan.

The snacks are calculated into my original oop estimate. 2 per person per day so no benefit to getting the plan there. The "extras" would be the alcohol or specialty drinks with our cs meals, the mugs and one extra TS for $320.

I’m not a big believer in the dining plans having experiences them ( mostly for free over the years). However, in ur case.. I’d go for it. It just seems like it ll make it that much easier for you Overall .. grab those drinks, use that mug in the am or late nite n don’t think about oop costs. Ur all done!

whatever you decide... have a great visit!

I vote to stick with OOP and do your extra TS. I would be very surprised if you spend as much as you've calculated.

I read it that they would be able to get one extra TS plus the alcohol/specialty drinks for the extra $7 per person/per day. I could be wrong, but if I read that correctly, I'd do the DDP.

The top quote is from the original post which leads me to believe the opposite and why I would stick with OOP.

How is the Dining Plan only $320 for 6 adults for 7 days? Isn’t it 75.49 per adult per night? Or I missing something

This is correct. Now that new mugs are out and we use ours a lot, we're leaning towards getting the ddp.

Now I'm confused. In your original calculations, you were saving money OOP even after including the alcohol and putting that money toward an extra TS. So how did that become doing an extra TS with DDP?

I'm not sure exactly what you're thinking but oop was $320 cheaper without alcohol/speciality drinks at cs and one less TS. My original thought was if I agreed to pay for alcohol at cs and added the 4th TS( 50's), which I would like to do , that would be the $320. If those new mugs are available, we will want those so ddp is looking better.

I guess I misunderstood. Sorry.

If paying OOP means you are doing fewer TS than the plan gives you, then using the DDP makes more sense if you want to do that TS.

If you are removing beverages and a meal, and the difference was $7 per day per person, no way would I remove the DDP. One beer or an icee/slushy at lunch would send you over.
