Help me like yogurt!

My favorite is Chick-fil-a's new yogurt parfait... creamy vanilla yogurt with strawberries and a choice of oreo cookie crumbs or granola topping.

Get it with lots of cookie crumbs on top and you'll never know you're even eating yogurt. Even without the cookie crumbs, it's much sweeter and more tasty than any of the refrigerator brands I've tried for some reason...:thumbsup2

After being on a vanilla yogurt kick and conducting my own taste test, I thought I would come back to the thread to post. I tried just about all the vanilla yogurts mentioned here including Activia, Dannon, Yoplait and Stonyfield. And the winner BY A MILE is...... the Fresh Market brand from Fresh Market! It is fantastic and IMHO way better than the rest. If you have a Fresh Market in your area, and like vanilla yogurt, you might want to give it a try.

I just saw the pic of the Chick-fil-a' yogurt parfait - yummy! I'll be trying that one next. Also, Einstein Bagels has a really good fruit & yogurt parfait with granola.

Frozen vanilla yoghurt, served with sliced banana or strawberries. Yum! Makes me smile just thinking about it.

OP here, just saw this thread was back on page 1 and thought I'd update, so no one loses sleep waiting for the final verdict. ;)

I tried Stoneyfield vanilla, Fage w/ honey, and Yoplait whipped chocolate mousse. I bought granola and put it in the first two...

The Stoneyfield is the taste I cannot stand. My brain convinces my body that I am eating spoiled food and I gag. The Fage had better texture and was less sour but I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Yoplait tasted the best but has the most additives. I still couldn't eat more than half of it. The whole experience was pretty torturous

I got acidophilus Pearl supplements today and OMG so much easier. Sorry, yogurt. I tried!

Well, good for you for trying. I'd rather see you just take the supplements for the health benefit than try to force some sugary dessert yogurt down that defeats the purpose. I've read that the excessive added sugars in many brands interfere with the probiotics in the yogurt.

Don't ever view the nutritional value on these--it's scary--lots of sugar!! It's a dessert for sure.

I hate yogurt. If the reason you need to eat it is for the live cultures, I would take probiotics instead.

I hate that sour chalky taste of yogurt but I do feel it does help my digestive system....I don't have to eat it everyday though for good results so I only have to choke down one every other day and I have also gone to eating 1/2 of one (less to have to choke down) a day and finish it the second day..this works best with the Fit and Light.

so I found Yoplait whips to be the best but at my grocery store it is very limited in the flavors, but the chocolate, YUK something about yogurt and chocolate does not go well...at least for me.

I have also tried the light and fit Dannon ones and love some of those flavors but they are a bit chalkier than the whips...the Pineapple coconut is my favorite.

I also read an article that freezing yogurt takes away the effective ingredients in it so if your eating it for medicinal purposes maybe freezing it is not so good.

Also I have a friend that was told by her doctor that for her health issues she should NEVER eat the activia ones. For me the Whips and Light and Fit work fine so I'm not going to the Activia ones either.

Well it is spoiled food essentially. Good for you for trying though. You're a better person than I am. I can't even look at yogurt without gagging.

It's not truly spoiled though. And yogurt itself can spoil:

Yogurt does indeed go bad -- witness the expiration dates on commercial yogurt containers. But when you're talking about spoiling, otherwise known as fermentation, the schedules are flexible. Most retailers suggest that refrigerated "live" yogurt is perfectly edible several days after the expiration date.
Yogurt is simply milk that has been supplemented with a couple of friendly bacteria (more specifically, actobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus), then been left alone to ferment. The bacteria convert the milk's sugar, or lactose, into lactic acid. The lactic acid accounts for yogurt's tangy taste, as well as its texture not because it's "spoiled."

So when you buy a container of yogurt, you are effectively purchasing an ongoing chemical process. Allowing this process to continue unchecked (i.e., leaving the yogurt alone for three weeks) will result in a lot of dead bacteria and lactic acid. The yogurt will taste sour. Feel free to try.

Some yogurts are pasteurized, meaning the bacteria have been killed through heat. Since this halts the fermentation process, the yogurt should last longer and may not have to be refrigerated. If your power goes out for a couple of hours, you probably don't have to throw out your yogurt. But check the expiration dates just to be safe.

The Pearls are what my chiropractor recommended to me for my reflux. :thumbsup2

Now, now... you make it sound like that's a bad thing...

I'd always thought of it as a dessert though b/c I don't normally do breakfast. I had a couple extra free Chik-fil-a breakfast coupons yesterday and DD21 noticed it was pictured with the breakfast entrees. I don't tend to like many fast food options for breakfast. Anyway, sure enough, it was listed on the breakfast menu too so they happily took our coupons - free yogurt parfaits with both cookie crumbs and granola - can't beat that... :cheer2:

Dannon used to have a Le Creme line that I would get occasionally. But I haven't seen it in stores for months. I don't like the taste in general but the little chunks of fruit send me over the edge. So I don't eat it. yuk.

It's not a bad thing as long as you are aware. The OP was told to eat yogurt for health reasons. A lot of people pick up yogurt containers for a healthy, in between meal snack. They think since it says "yogurt" it's good for you. All yogurts are not created equal and it has come a LONG way from its 1970s hippie/health food beginnings in this country. In order to make yogurt more palatable to the masses it has been jacked up with lots of sugar for those tiny containers, colorings, flavorings, etc. It's kind of a joke anymore that this is anything that is a healthy choice.

In the context of this thread, I was just pointing out that the Chick-Fil-A yogurt has about 36 grams of sugar in it. As opposed to Chobani Peach Yogurt with 19 grams. Of course it's going to taste fabulous and may even make the OP a "yogurt" lover but there's a reason that will happen...

I havent read all the replies but I agree about the taste and texture of it. Recently I bought the Yoplait Parfait, I think it was Yoplait. Anyway, I had a free coupon so I got the vanilla with strawberry. It has a little tiny bit of granola to add to it as well. I was surprised by how much I like it. The vanilla tasted sweet and fruit wasnt nasty at all.

Try the Yoplait Whips. The chocolate is nasty, but they have strawberry, lemon, key lime and orange that taste great. After you get used to that, you can try others and they likely won't taste as bad. It's like going from whole milk straight to skim (ewwww), but if you take it in steps, it's harder to notice the change. I used to hate yogurt, but now it's a favorite snack.

I like to eat my bananas by dipping them into yogurt. Something about plain bananas just makes me icked out- I think it's texture related, but when I eat them dipped in yogurt, they're fine to me. I know it's weird, but you could try the yogurt as more of a dip rather than by itself.

(I like the Fiber One brand Vanilla- it tastes like cake batter :) )
