You need a goal--check

You need a plan--?

You need WISH--check

Looks like all you need is an eating plan. You need a plan that works best for you. We can share information about the plans we follow but ultimately you need to find the plan that is best for you.

I follow the Atkins plan. That means I control my carbohydrate intake. If you cannot live without bread, pasta, white flour, sugar or potatoes, this is most likely not the plan best for you.

Many WISHers follow weight watchers. I'll allow them to describe their plan for you.

There are others who follow the Slimfast plan. Actually, just about every eating plan that has ever been devised is represented on WISH.

We are ready to help you reach your goal as soon as you decide on a plan. Losing 50 pounds in four months is not impossible, but you are going to have to buckle down, be strict with yourself and work out a lot. You actually need to learn a new healthy way of eating that you can follow the rest of your life. That way you won't be faced with panic before a vacation, you'll already be looking good.

I hope you decide to join us here on WISH. It's a wonderful place with kind, emotionally generous and supportive people. I think you will like it here. Let us know what you decide to do, we'll be waiting to hear and saving you a place.

WELCOME Mad4Mickey. I just joined WISH last Thursday when I started Atkins. Everyone here is so awesome and incredibly supportive. I know you will feel welcome!

Not sure what to say as far as losing your weight. I think you need to decide what you want to do. IE, Atkins is a low-carb, protein rich diet that I think will work for me. Others are doing Weight Watchers, Curves (a workout gym), etc. That probably doesn't help much does it?

Hi Mad4Mickey...First let me welcome you to WISH...we are a very tight knit group...who have very long welcoming arms...and we are always looking for new members to become tight knit with.

Kath said it best...you need to find a "plan" that you are going to be able to stick with. Something that you are NOT going to "slack off" on during the weekends, birthdays, weddings, family dinners, etc.

I also am on Atkins..and I find it the easiest to incorporate into my lifestyle. Once you get a plan...PLEASE post and let us know... there no doubt will be someone who is ready to give you advice on whichever plan you choose.

We can all help you do this...you just need to let us help you!! Wishing you the best of luck...the hardest part is getting started!!! My advice....JUST DO IT!!!

Tracy

Hello and welcome!!!!!

You came to the right place for support, help, encouragement, motivation and inspiration!!!

Fifty pounds by October, not a problem!!! :)

My advice is to not make too many big changes at once. It can be a bit overwhelming to think, "I've got to walk X miles this week, drink X ounces of water a day, plan X meals, buy X groceries, etc. etc."

Make small changes that you can live with, then add more small changes. Try to imagine spending the rest of your life eating healthier, working out more, drinking lots of water, having LOTS more energy and feeling great about yourself every day. Between now and October you have plenty of time to learn to love exercising and eating healthier foods.

Small goals are a good way to stay motivated! Changing your clippie after every 5 pound loss in another great way to stay motivated. Make sure you read as many posts here as you can, and lose, maintain, or gain, PLEASE always post a message in the weekly check-in thread (started by Jiminy every Sunday!) :)

I'm on WW, started March 9th and have lost 20.5 pounds. I love the plan, I usually schedule ONE cheat meal a week so I can indulge in my favorite Mexican foods (most of the time!) to get my nacho/cheese fix. ;) I started out doing very little exercise and now I exercise quite a bit every day! I also started out not drinking much water, and now I drink a bunch of water every day. AND I've learned that my body has really adjusted well to this way of life, so when I do have my "cheat" meals, I just don't sleep as well as I normally do. Gotta love that (the adjusting to healthy food part, not the bad night of sleep!)

Good luck!!!

To keep up with your nephew, definitely try walking. Start out slow & build up. There are people on these boards who are training for the Disney marathon. They might be able to help. Also, there are people who use exercise videos. The most popular being, Walking Away the Pounds (WATP) & Pilates. These might be helpful, too.

Take Katholyn's advice & devise an eating plan. Ease into it & choose one that works well with your lifestyle.

Welcome  to WISH. Don't be afraid to ask questions. These people are the friendliest on the net!!!!

Good luck!

I think everyone has given some great advise but I'm going to chime in on Karen's thoughts which are start small - that's what I did and I've lost 25 lbs. The first week I strived to drink more water and exercise 3 times, the next week I kept doing that and then worked on having 3 servings of vegetables a week and not having any bagels (my favorite). By doing small changes over the course of several weeks it was easier to slip into a full program that I am able to maintain with just a few slip ups here and there :p

Most of all visit us here at WISH!!! I find even when I don't post just hearing all of the general support is invaluable!! And when I do post my successes I am cheered and when I need support I am cheered as well!! I was a mess when the boards were down! Visit us often, let us know how you're doing, and you'll achieve your goals!!

Mad4Mickey, welcome! I just startind WISHing last Monday and these folks are incredibly welcoming!!! All you have to do is say you want in, and you're in!!

I have never been so motivated and inspired. And I got it all here on WISH!

So hang around, you CAN do it!!!!

Welcome! I agree: exercise, food plan and support! I have been struggling with weight, and now am looking at a 40-50 pound loss. I joined the WISH about a week ago and LOVE the support! I started Atkins last Monday and lost 6 pounds in the first week! That makes me at 11 pounds lost! I am so revved up, I can't wait to get my 15 pound clippie! You can do it, SEE it!

Good Luck!!!!:p

Ditto to all of the above. When I first joined Curves (end of March) I was not emotionally ready to "diet". I actually didn't start journalling my daily food until the end of May ... and what a great difference it has made already. My first couple of months before journalling I not only made sure I went to Curves 3-5 times/week, I also made sure I drank more than my 8 glasses of water/day, and I did my best to cut way down on the amount of Coke I was consuming in a week, as well as tried to avoid my late-night snacks consisting of bread! I needed to do the smaller stuff first, and after I had that all in check, journalling and trying to count WW points has been great for me. Please let us know what you plan you decide to follow. One thing I did learn was that increased exercise alone did not make a huge difference in my weight ... but combining exercise with healthy eating makes a tremendous difference. Good luck, and visit us often.

Welcome!

Here is a web site that offers some basic information about almost every weight loss plan known to mankind...

www.chasefreedom.com

I don't know much else about the site - but they do offer both pro and con reviews of many eating plans so you can learn more about what will work best for you.

First off Welcome and I just started the WISH group on Friday and agree with everything everybody has said. I would like to add that I to am on Weight Watchers which is now avaliable on line so that you do not have to go to meetings and with this great support group who needs the meetings!! Anyhow, I have found it very easy to follow, you can pretty much eat anything you want as long as you plan for it and I have also found after my initial weight loss that I to have what I call a points free day, usually Friday and eat something special that I might not have eaten during the week such as a pizza (small of course LOL!) or a night out for dinner with my husband and find that my weight continues to go down.
Your initial weight loss is rapid then it slows down which is true with any program so keep that in mind when it starts to slow down so you don't get discouraged. Good luck with what ever plan you choose.

Just wanted to say that we love getting new "losers" to join us! We aren't perfect (tho some of those Atkins folks don't seem to cave) but if/when that happens you need to just get up "dust yourself off" and move on!!

the support here keeps me from straying toooooooooo far!

I'm a WW point counter and it works for me, but resounding others - you will need to figure what it best for you and what plan you will be able to live with - cause this is not a quick fix but a way of life we are learning.

I set my goal at 10 lbs at a time and just aim to get 10 lbs off and then go for another and another and SOMEDAY I will get to the "big momma of all clippies - the big red GOAL" But for now I am just taking it one day at a time and am marching "onward and downward"/

Hope to see you around the boards!
