I didnt enjoy my dinner here last yr at all, the Tuna Oscar tasted very bland to me and my family of 4 was crammed into a booth too small for us plus my waitress was sooo slow..

I made the ADR for our first night since we are staying at the Poly and want to enjoy the resort that night, I couldnt get Ohana for that night (did get it for later in the week)

The mahi mahi doesnt appeal to me, the pan asian noodles look watery. Shrimp and Scallops look like there isnt much on the plate, coconut chicken sounds good but only comes with salad and Id like a starch, maybe steak is the option for me?

Thought about sushi but we are having sushi later in the week at Calli Grill and possibly at the KC Sushi Island Bar..

Help!

Here goes..hope this helps.

We went to Kona last year and throuroughly enjoyed it and have ADRs for this year again.

We were seated at a nice table and our waitress was very nice and accomodating. We celebrated our sons birthday that week and they brought him a cupcake and sang to him.

DH and my sister enjoy sushi and loved the sushi appetizer for 2. I had the pot stickers and they were very good also.

I like fish, but need to be in the mood for it. The pork chop and teriyaki steak appealed to me and I went with the steak and it was flavorful and very good. For dessert I had the fruit fondue (fruit and chocolate suace for dipping). It was light yet you got that chocolate fit. This year I think I want to try the Kona Kone.

We went to Kona last year because Ohana was booked solid and themenu looked good. We werent' disappointed and DH requested we go again this year because he liked it so much.

This year we got our Ohana ressie, but are still also going to Kona.

Maybe last year was just a fluke for you and you were just there at the wrong time. Try the steak or pork chop this year and if you didn't like the booth, when they seat you request a table instead of a booth if they have it.

Based on my experience last year, I woud recommend Kona...here's to a good dinner for both of us when we go.

Why not just take the monorail to one of the other resorts? The Wave is fantastic!

Why dont you take a quick monorail ride and eat at GF or CR? It sounds like you werent happy at all with it why go back? We have ressies for Ohana and i also got Kona which i am excited about trying.

We have gone a few times now and will be going again this year. I really like the food. IMHO the Ginger Crusted Ribeye I had there last year beat out the steak I had at LeCellier! I know "ginger crusted" sounds a little off but it was absolutely AWESOME! :thumbsup2'' I would give it another shot

DS had the Teriyaki steak and it was delicious too!

I can't wait to go down- having dinner there one night and trying it for breakfast the first time!

Is the ginger on the ginger encrusted rib eye strong? I normally like ginger but never had it outside of dessert..LOL

Macadamia nut butter and bread! That is all I need to get excited about Kona. :goodvibes

DH really likes the Teriyaki Steak and I really like the Pan Asian Noodles with Chicken which I have never found to be watery. We originally tried thie restaurant because I was wanting the Kona Kone but now we usually go there for at least one meal a trip.

Why not get the chicken you want and ask for a different side dish. I have been to Kona many times and have been able to substitute a side I didn't want for a different one.

Our last time at Kona was so disappointing food and service wise we've not returned. :( (And have no intentions to do so).

Personally I don't think you will enjoy any of it. Sounds like you were really disappointed with last year's meal, and if you are asking others to help you get excited...really you should reconsider and go to another place, such as the PPs are saying.
Being at the Poly you are so close to GF and CR, that with the monorail, there is no need for you do dine somewhere you aren't sure about.

I understand eating in your "home" resort, it is so quick and easy, but with the monorail I consider all 3 to be "home base".

Please reconsider your dining choice, it would be terrible for you to start out your vacation with another disappointment. :)

We ate the Terryaki Steak and totally loved it!!! I'm not much of a fish eater, so that didn't appeal to me. Try the pork chop or steak or prime rib, you might like it.

We all enjoyed our meal in 2008.

I'm going back again this year with my niece. I ordered the steak last time and will again this year.

Is the ginger on the ginger encrusted rib eye strong? I normally like ginger but never had it outside of dessert..LOL

No it is not strong at all. I have eaten ginger in many dishes before and this is no where near like biting into a piece of ginger. The steak was cooked perfect and ribeye is one of my favorite cuts.
:)

By the way you do realize this is ginger root not ginger as in gingerbread?!

To me the best thing about the Kona Cafe is that it's close to the monorail. Especially since you had a bad experience before. You could take the boat from the Poly to WL and eat at Whispering Canyon. It's not everyone's fave bu I like it better than Kona. BUT I will say, I usually give a restaurant a second chance.

If you don't like Kona, then don't go there. The Grand Floridian Cafe usually has reservations available, and they are just a monorail stop away. I mean you know you didn't like it the first time, so why risk being disappointed? We, on the other hand, will be trying it out for the first time this trip. The photos are making me drool, which just shows everyone has their own taste since you thought they looked bad!

I love the teryiaki steak and my wife likes one of the fish dishes. We brought my 3 nephews down last year (ages 18,16, and 14) and they loved it too. My youngest nephew was looking at the dessert menu and asked about the banana creme brulee. I told him to just order it. Within seconds of the dessert being placed in front of him it was gone!

We schedule Kona for every trip.

I sorta kinda agree with those who tell you to go somewhere else instead, if you were really that unhappy last time.

Even though I can't fathom passing up sushi just because I'm having it later in the week  But that's just my insatiable love for sushi!
