Help me get a great car gire deal !

Hi there,

I'm looking around for a car hire quote for next year as follows -

Dates - pick up TPA, 28/03/13 at 18:00, drop off 12/04/13 at 16:00

I'm looking for a premium suv (the last couple of times we've been, we've had a Chevrolet traverse, which we really liked.

The best quote I've found so far has been on Alamo web site for £530 , fully inclusive which included an additional driver. Is that quote ok, or are there better deals out there ?

One more thing, we're thinking of buying a sat nav, can anyone recommend one that would useful to use out there. I've had a quick look at the Walmart web site, but don't really know what I'm looking for as I don't have one at home !!

Just had a look as I thought it sounded too cheap for a Premium SUV. I believe you mean Full size? Its showing this on Alamo Fullsize SUV: Chevrolet Tahoe or similar £539.48 (they are not showing Premium price as far as I can see, no idea why)

You would get £18 cashback via Quidco = £521.48

Just now that showing FS SUV at £548.91 less 6% Quidco = £515.98 that includes a tank of gas as well as extra drivers.
I would wait for Holiday Autos to have a sale, For my next rental I used the 15% link, got £25 off code & 10% Quidco, I ended up with FS car with tank of gas & extra driver for £157 (10 days)

If you don't have patience to wait for a sale then there are better deals around, for example the Brits deal http://www.alamo.co.uk/brits
That would be £485.53, you could also try to get Quidco £18 as well but others have said it doesn't always work with Brits discount.

All above are Alamo, this deal is Sixt I believe they are offsite so a shuttle will be provided but they say less lines at the desks.

Thanks for your reply Wayne. Yes, you're right, a full size SUV is what I meant, not premium.

I was not aware of the brits code on alamo, so I can see that price of £485 which you mention.

I am in no great rush to book yet, just getting an idea of prices. Do you know when the holiday autos sale usually takes place, so I know when to look out for it.

Also on a separate note, do you have any knowledge of purchasing sat navs while in USA. I'm thinking of getting one, but not really sure what to get !

Wayne, who supplies the car for Holiday Autos in FL?? I had a really bad experience with them in Lanzarote a couple of years ago where the car came froma really shonkey outfit....wanted to take an imprint of DH credit card using a random slip and a biro actually at the car (they didn't have a counter, just the guy with some cc slips in his pocket) , so this has put me off using them again. They didn't want to investigate when we reported the issue when we got home.
