were renting a car and will be driving from the airport on 417 to the Poly. Can anyone give me directions for a quick stop at a grocery store that isn't too far out of the way? Thanks.
If I remember correctly, You'll get "off" of 417 and be on 536. (417 just sort of peters out there near the Disney property at International Drive.) When you reach the intersection with 535 (it shouldn't be more than a few miles), take a left. You'll go several miles, and there is a Publix grocery store on your left. It's just before you reach 192. I think when you leave that you might be able to take 192 over towards WDW to get to the Poly.
I hope someone else reads these directions and route numbers to make sure I'm right! I'm going on my memory from last year and a large scale map of the Orlando area. You might want to call one of the Publix stores in Kissimmee (www.publix.com) to see if they can help you pinpoint the one I'm talking about. Just tell them that it's at the corner of 535 and 192. If they have one listed in Indian Wells, it might be the one I'm talking about.
I was pleased with the prices at Publix, and it only took about 5 or 10 minutes to get there from the CBR. I also bought a styrofoam cooler there for about $3 and used it to store perishable items in my room. I just threw a couple of buckets of ice in it each day and it worked out fine. Pretty good deal since Disney will charge you $10 a day to rent a frig. I also bought 6 packs of water for $2 which is a considerable savings over the $2.50 a bottle they'll charge you in the parks.
In that case, exit the highway on the way to WDW at Orange Blossom Trail. There's a large Albertson's store right off the exit.
Easy to return to the highway and continue on your way. Exiting here will add 50 cents to your tolls, but it will save you time and distance because of the convenience.
Eyeores mom, we've stopped at the Albertson's on Orange Blossom the last few trips and it seems to be a quick in and out. Have not had to wait too long for lines, etc. It is a nice grocery and has all that we need (pop and snack foods.) Have a great trip!
